"This was a great location slightly out of the city to catch the Northern Lights without going on a tour (we saw it two nights out of five! Cabins were well kept and clean, we were two adults and two teens and there was enough space for everyone. It is 10mins walk to the bus stop to the city, of 40mins walk across the bridge to the city, both of which were manageable for us. Note that there aren’t many restaurants nearby. All in I was extremely happy we chose this place for the Tromso leg of our trip."

"The views are incredible – from my room, I could see the Arctic Cathedral and the cable car. The location is excellent, and I was very satisfied with my three-night stay. However, the cleaning service was a bit of an issue. For consecutive nights, they don't clean by default, and you have to book cleaning a day in advance. When we first entered our room, there were cleaning tools and dirty cups left by the cleaning staff. We put them outside our door, and they weren't taken away until noon the next day (I suspect the cleaning staff only works between 12 PM and 4 PM). Towels aren't changed unless you go to the front desk to get fresh ones; nobody comes to change them for you. I understand the Nordic efficiency and the 'eco-friendly' approach, but considering the average daily room rate of around 3500 [currency, presumably NOK or equivalent], it's a bit disappointing. Of course, the price isn't the hotel's fault; all hotels in Tromsø have seen huge price hikes, and I heard it's much cheaper in the summer."

"Facilities: There's a kettle, and disposable items like shower caps are provided. Cleanliness: Very clean and hygienic, with a great Nordic-style decor. Service: Front desk, housekeeping, and breakfast service are all excellent. Location: Absolutely central, convenient for getting anywhere. Close to the shopping street, the station, and the hotel itself is a hub for many tours and activities. What I didn't expect was how dry it is here (compared to the UK). The view from the window is as shown in the picture."

"DISHONEST & NON RESPONSIVE HOTEL We booked direct with the hotel in December 2024 for 1 night stay together with the King Crab tour in Mar 2025. We expected for the best rate with the early and direct booking. Beware if you wanna book direct with non refundable rates and full payment as you may end up with the following nasty experiences that we encountered. Firstly the room rates had fluctuated and deviated on the direct website when we checked few weeks before our travel date. We wrote to the hotel to clarify but ended up with an unforeseen reply that the original king crab tour date that we had booked way ahead cannot be honored. We were forced to accept the earlier tour date that falls on our late arrival in Tromso. We could have missed the tour if we didn’t write in to the hotel. As expected, we arrived late evening at the hotel and the tour had begun we missed the beginning part of the tour including the killing and preparation of the king crab before they serve them for our dinner. We did highlight our concern to the staff on duty though the manager that was agreed to meet us the next morning did not turn up and refused to speak to us. In the end the staff had gotten approval from the manager to refund a portion of the tour fee. This was further confirmed in an email. It was really to our great disappointment that despite all WhatsApp and email reminders to follow up on the refund that was agreed upon, till today 2 months after our stay we received no respond nor reply to the status of the refund. THINK TWICE before you book this hotel."

The Only downside is the walls are paper thin and you can hear guests talking and joking about at 2am. The breakfast was amazing and the staff were super friendly. There seemed to have machine for laundry at 3rd floor for 90kr a wash. The reception is also a bar to get your drinks. There are work space in front of the 'Barception'. Staffs were cool 😎"

"We stayed here for 5 nights in January. I don’t recognise the place described in some of the not so good reviews at all - I think they must be describing it when it was under different management. Our stay was fantastic! We had a superior 2 bedroom apartment with a sea view. It was warm, comfortable, had all the equipment we needed and had an amazing view from every window. The beds were super comfy - we didn’t want to get up in the morning as we lay looking at the views. It is about a 10-15 minute walk out of town (depending on your pace, the snow and which part of town you are going to). Or you can walk for a couple of minutes and get a bus. But the payback for being a bit further out is that it is wonderfully quiet. And there is less light pollution. We saw the Northern Lights out of our window twice. The reception staff are lovely. There is free hot chocolate and cookies. There are also breakfast bags that you can purchase but we bought breakfast from a supermarket which is about 5 minutes walk away. All in all - far cheaper than the big hotel brands in the town centre and very highly recommended."

"We booked this room type but weren't actually assigned it. We only realized the room was wrong after we carried our luggage upstairs to the room. When we went back to the front desk, they said they could change it, but they showed no remorse. We were too lazy to bother, so we didn't change it. There was no refrigerator, and the heating was broken."

"The best part was the night time view from our window. And now the reality of actually staying there, Arctic Mary Rooms "Hotel". 1. Nice front door,with a pile of junk ceiling high at the side. 2. Needed a torch to operate key code pad outside, making a loud noise with every touch. 3. Boots strewn all over the hallway causing me to trip when entering. 4. Misdescribed Superior Room, no mention of shared bathroom and toilet. 5. Only one thin pillow each, contacted the manager (he had emailed us, to ask him for anything we need) but absolutely no reply from him. Rolled up our quilts as pillows and winter coats used for blankets. 6. Kitchen table, worktops, sink and hob covered in dirty old dishes and food scraps. 7. Dishwasher rammed full and not working. Not even one clean cup or plate to be found. 8. Cigarette stubs outside our room and smokers at open front door. 9. Constant loud stomping up wooden stairs for the bathroom and toilet, playing loud music in the shower, wet towels always on the floor, dirty shower full of product bottles 10. Smeared excrement on toilet seat, I had to clean before use, and blood smear on the wall by the bin. 11. Second night at 0130 in the morning loud door bell was rung every few seconds for about 30 minutes, then at 0155 loud shouting inside, I had to get up and call down for quiet. 12. Third night, double booking of room next to us, family was thrown out after midnight, with 45 minutes of crashing and yelled arguments in italian until 0100hours Avoid at all cost if you don't want to be stressed out"
