Manoir de la Marjolaine

We arrived at a locked gate to the Manor at 3:30pm, using the buzzer and phone number we couldn't make contact with the hotel. So we had to phone our booking agent to contact them on our behalf - it turned out check wasn't until 5pm and no access could be gained to the property until then. Upon returning at 5:30pm we were again confronted with the locked gate, second time of trying the buzzer and phoning. Second time of no response and again we contacted our booking agent, who eventually got us in! Not the welcoming start you expect to a stay. Our room was quirky, clean and had a very comfortable bed. The location was good, within walking distance of the town. Although returning from dinner all the lights in the building were out at 9:30pm and we had to use mobile phone light to let ourselves in and go upstairs to our room - perhaps lights on a timer might be a good idea! Breakfast was excellent. I think the 'icing on the cake' was when we went to leave - we had handed in our keys and fob to the gate and were told we would be let out of the gate. It took 15 mins for the gate to be opened for us to get out!!

We spent there at the suite room on Friday night and Saturday night. Each morning, Roosters screaming at 4 o'clock am the whole morning! The private owner of this hotel owns 5 Roosters. It was obvious he doesn't care about guests get good sleep or not. Both of two days, we could not sleep well because of that. We told the owner about it on the first morning. But the owner even did not say SORRY or anything. He just said he knows about it...... We realized that we made the wrong choice of picking up this hotel. Inside hotel is very old but sadly there was not well maintained. The bathroom had a big water leak stain on the ceiling. After bed-making, the maid did not change the used coffee cups. She had left new coffee powder and tea bags next to the used coffee cups without wash to clean used coffee cups. I believe this is the style of this hotel...I guess. And they don't speak English at all I believe. The nightstand was broken but did not fix it. When I tried to turn on the light, the nightstand neck was fallen dawn. This hotel was supposed NON-smoking hotel but when we enter our suite room, the room smell full of smoking smell. The old mansion has to be well maintained in order to make money from the guests. Do I recommend this place to other people? Absolutely NOT!
