We are alwayys trying to book rooms, flights etc. well in advance and thereby save money. A trip by bike in north Zealand bookings were made months ahead. On the north eastern tip of Zealand we had a booking at the hotel called Den Gyldne Hane - a couple of weeks before departure for Zealand we contacted all hotels booked to confirm that everything was fine. Most hotels reverted, this hotel didn’t, but we assumed this was due to heavy workload or the like. Getting from Rørvig to Sjællands Odde by bike was adventurous, really scenic and loaded with milelong deserted beaches, and lush agricultural scenery. We were in high spirits arriving in Havnebyen and found the hotel. We were met by Margit who blushed in confusion when we presented ourselves and a reservation for one night - nothing of the sort existed - the hotel was opening, but still plumbers and other professions were laying the last touches on public areas. The old hotel, you see, had gone bankrupt months ago, and few documents, emails etc. were left by the old management. Long story short, we got rooms, got a meal and breakfast the next morning, at an exorbitant price compared to the original booking - they were the only beds in town !
