Free Dali Xizhou Ancient Town (Part II) || You really know how to enjoy yourself!

Address, 214 National Road, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province Xizhou is the seat of a town-level administrative division, but historically it had the scale of a city. Long before the Nanzhao Kingdom moved to the area around Erhai Lake, this place was the settlement of the Bai people's ancestors, the 'He Man'. It was then known as Dali City, and it already had a large population. Legend has it that an officer of Emperor Wen of Sui, named Shi Wansui, stationed his troops here, hence the place was also called Shi City, and the nearby Pingbazai was called 'Shi Dan' (Dan has the same meaning as Dian). By the end of the Nanzhao period, a royal palace was also built here. The layout of the city can be traced from the place names, with villages such as Chengbei (North of the City), Chengdong (East of the City), and Chengnan (South of the City) surrounding it. In the past, archaeologists have also excavated Nanzhao-era inscribed tiles, thick patterned tiles, and lotus pattern tiles in the town.
