Shamian Island

When we talk about Guangzhou, one of the must see place is Shamian Island. Located next to Cultural Park metro station, this place can offer you many things. Two catholic churches, small park, many old historic buildings, nice riverview, restaurants, statues, tennis courts and etc. Shamian is a sandbank island. The island's name literally means "sandy surface" in Chinese. Shamian Island was an important port for Guangzhou's foreign trade from the Song to the Qing dynasty.
