Shaolin’s Pagoda Forest

The Pagoda Forest is actually located within the same complex as the Shaolin Temple (around 300m away - and at the foot of Shaoshi Mountain - and is actually comprised of several stone / brick pagodas. The pagodas here range in size and height, some consisting of just one storey, some several. They also vary in style thanks to the many different carvings and inscriptions on them. All of them, however, are tomb pagodas erected in memory of the monks buried there. Each pagoda is designed to showcase something about the monk it is dedicated to, and its interesting to see what the carvings showcase about that person - one had more modern carvings of a laptop! It's an easy place to stroll around, but you can't actually walk between the pagodas themselves - only around the perimeter of the "forest" - because it is a protected area. #momentsmission
