Moon Lake, a place of prosperity in Ningbo since ancient times

🏃🏻‍♂️On the second day of my trip to Ningbo, I returned to the urban area from the ancient county town of Cicheng and took the subway directly to Tianyi Pavilion to revisit this attraction. The name Tianyi Pavilion is derived from 'Tianyi gives birth to water,' which is the most basic wish of the ancients. Most ancient Chinese buildings are made of wood and brick, which are extremely prone to destruction by fire, and books are good combustibles. Once a fire breaks out, years of accumulation can be destroyed in an instant. ✔️Of course, just having a nice name is not enough to prevent fires; real measures are necessary. The main fire prevention measure of Tianyi Pavilion is the tall firewalls, which block the flying sparks. In addition, there is the control of fire sources; the distance between the residences and the book collection building is quite far. There are also firefighting measures, with a pond built at the entrance, named Tianyi Pool, from which water can be drawn to extinguish fires in case of an emergency. ✔️Paper books, besides being afraid of fire, are also afraid of water. Once damp, they can become moldy, infested with insects, and turn into waste paper. Tianyi Pavilion has two floors; the first floor is damp, and during the rainy season, there is a risk of internal flooding, so the books are stored on the second floor. The second floor is designed as a large open space, with windows open to the north and south, conducive to ventilation and air circulation, making the environment much safer for the books. This design is very scientific and was later adopted by many official book collection buildings. ✔️Tianyi Pavilion was the private book collection site of Fan Qin, a Ming Dynasty scholar, and is the oldest existing book collection building in China. After leaving Tianyi Pavilion, I headed east along the Mayar River to Moon Lake. Moon Lake, named for its crescent shape, has been a bustling place in Ningbo since ancient times, where officials and dignitaries built houses to live, and scholars stored books and lectured. ✔️Walking south along the lakeshore, I came to Shangshu Bridge, which connects to a small island in the lake called Liuting, one of the four islets in the lake. In addition to Shangshu Bridge, the island also has many ancient sites such as Ludian Bridge, Yingzhou Jiewufang, Buddhist Laymen's Forest, and Guandi Temple. ✔️Crossing Liuting, I arrived at the east bank of Moon Lake and continued south to Huayu. Huayu is the largest of the four islets in the lake, with many ancient sites such as Lake Heart Temple, Shizhou Pavilion, Cangzhou Pavilion, and Yuan Zhongchen Shrine, offering a feast for the eyes. In fact, in the northern part of Moon Lake, in addition to Tianyi Pavilion, there are also many ancient sites, which are also a collection of humanities, but unfortunately, I missed them. ✔️At Moon Bay, there are Moon Island and Moon Lake Bridge, where the scenery is the most beautiful. I lingered here for a long time, and if it weren't for the need to catch a plane, I would have been reluctant to leave. The southernmost end of Moon Lake is the Ningbo Railway Station, which has a subway station.
