Jiaoshan is a small island on the Yangtze River, known as the 'Floating Jade on the River', named 'Jiaoshan' after the hermit Jiao Guang of the Eastern Han Dynasty lived here. Jiaoshan Scenic Area has many historical sites and scenic spots, mainly including: 1⃣️Dinghui Temple: It was built in the Eastern Han Dynasty and has a history of more than 1800 years. There is a couplet on the side of the mountain gate: This is a moat of the Yangtze River, there are sages in China, with extraordinary momentum. 2⃣️Imperial Stele Pavilion: Located in front of the Heavenly King Hall of Dinghui Temple, the front and back sides are poems praising Jiaoshan written by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty when he came to Jiaoshan twice. 3⃣️Stele Forest: It started in the Northern Song Dynasty. After the founding of New China, it has been repaired and expanded several times. It is now opened as the 'Zhenjiang Jiaoshan Stele Museum', composed of cliff carvings and stele displays. The original site of the 'Yihe Ming' known as the 'ancestor of big characters' is said to be written by Wang Xizhi, is here. 4⃣️Ancient Artillery Fort Ruins: During the Opium War, the Qing government built the Jiaoshan Artillery Fort to strengthen the defense of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is an important relic of China's anti-British and anti-imperialist struggle. 5⃣️Wanfo Pagoda: It was built in the Yuan Dynasty and was destroyed by the Japanese chaos in the early Ming Dynasty. The abbot of Dinghui Temple, Master Mingshan, presided over the foundation laying and reconstruction in May 1998. It is currently under maintenance. 6⃣️Three Edicts Cave: Emperor Ling of Han issued three edicts to invite Jiao Guang to come down the mountain to be an official, all of which were rejected by Jiaoshan. It is said that Emperor Zhenzong of Song named the cave where he lived 'Three Edicts Cave' to show that he was a wise monarch and to commend Jiao Guang for not being moved by the three edicts of the foolish monarch. Jiaoshan is also the place where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling made their love commitment. In May 1927, Chiang and Soong had a date here and spent 10 days together, and their feelings progressed rapidly. To enter and exit the Jiaoshan Scenic Area, you need to take a boat from the South Gate Pier. The adult ticket is 65 yuan (including round-trip boat ride), and there is a discount for online purchase.
