Modern art in an ancient city
In the small town of Sakura in the northeastern part of Chiba Prefecture, there is an excellent art museum worthy of your attention: the Kawamura Memorial Art Museum DIC (in Japanese - "Kawamura Kinen Bijutsukan"). His exhibition is based on the collection of works of art, which was collected by Katsumi Kawamura and the company DIC Corporation.
It is interesting
The museum is owned by DIC Corporation, a manufacturer of inks and polymers
The museum presents priceless masterpieces of great masters, among them — "Water Lilies" by Claude Monet and "Portrait of a man in a wide-brimmed Hat" by Rembrandt
How to get there
There is a free shuttle service from Narita Airport to the museum.
It takes about 60 minutes to drive from Tokyo Station via JR Sobu Line Limited Express towards Narita Airport to Sakura Station. A shuttle bus departs from the south exit of the station to the Kawamura Museum bus stop (20 minutes on the way).
A taxi from the station costs about 3,000 yen.
Great variety
There are about 1000 works in the permanent exhibition of the Kawamura DIC Memorial Art Museum. The collection contains works by artists from all over the world, including great masters: Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Rene Magritte, Vasily Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, Frank Stella and other famous painters. Temporary exhibitions are held.
A walk around the museum
After visiting the art collection, you can walk around the museum — it stands in the middle of a 10-hectare park with 200 species of trees and 500 species of other plants. Wild birds have chosen these places.
There are trails in the park, which are convenient to walk at any time of the year. The landscapes here are very beautiful, and it is not uncommon to meet artists sketching.
