It is really colorful and colorful. Although it will feel a bit rough when you walk in, you can see adobe and straw in some places, maybe a little far from your psychological expectations, but when you see the sentence that has appeared many times, you will only be moved.

Nice stop on a road trip. If you ask a local person where to have a picnic they are likely to send you to this park. I am not sure if I would stop here in the summertime. Way too hot.

Wow! The world’s largest collection of Ford Model T cars. If you’re in Yuma, make sure you drive 20 miles away... one person’s collection, Mr. Cloud has more than Henry Ford!

We had driven past a few times but decided to visit it and we were very happy about it. The museum has lots of interesting exhibits, great gift shops, clean bathrooms, ideal places for a walk and a great view of the valley. Donations are accepted instead of admission fees. Despite your interest, you can spend more time easily seeing everything in 30 minutes. The Imperial Valley Desert Museum is well worth a visit!

Take Picacho Rd north out of Winterhaven; continue 18 more miles on the dirt road which is well maintained. Expect a safe speed 20-30 miles per hour. Around mile 12 is an active gold mine and a historic marker with its history. This is a fee for use park, so bring cash. It is self registration. Be sure to pack water and food.We didn’t explore much of the park but did venture out the River Overlook Road. This is one car wide only and no areas to pass. At one point it seriously felt like we were on a curving roller coaster track. Very nerve racking. The road does end at a wider area to turn around and park. Beware it does end over a cliff with no barricades. The view was stunning . We drove a Jeep Cherokee low clearance vehicle. Four wheel drive not necessary.

These sand dunes seem to just come out of now where, and are just beautiful. We dont have ATV’s but there were several people riding around. The southern ranger station (Buttercup, off I-8)) seems to be permanently closed, don’t know about the northern one. There were several RV’s at the camping area, and plenty of room for everyone to camp and play with their “toys”. We read about the Plank Road, which was very interesting. For us, it was just a short rest stop off I-8, but I can see why people would stay for a while and camp here.

Overall, it was a fine hike, but visitors need to know that this is a well worn area. The main form of litter are empty shell casings (bullet shells, not fossil shells) and broken skeet targets. We heard gun shots the entire time we were in the canyon. Signs nearer the road warn people about shooters using the area for target practice. Even with that it is a beautiful area and we did find a few fossilized clams and saw some beautiful vistas.

The USS Midway Museum is an absolute must-visit when you are in San Diego. A good 2 to 3 hours were spent here to walk through the historic aircraft carrier and informative exhibits.
