The old mansion of Jo Niijima who built Doshisha. It is made quite interesting in the mix of Japanese and Western styles. It is also very close to the Kyoto City History Museum. Admission is free. It's a very beautiful building.
The private residence of Jo Niijima, the founder of Doshisha, and his wife Yae (completed in 1878), was built by a donation from a friend of Boston J. M. Sears. Admission is free, but there is a release date, so please check the website.
Tangible cultural property designated by Kyoto City

Not only the old residence but also the attached shops, gates, and 57 pieces of furniture were introduced as tangible cultural properties designated by Kyoto City. I learned for the first time that each building and furniture are designated. Also, on the road side, there was a stone monument engraved only as "Jo Niijima-sensei's residence".

The former residence of Takeshi Niijima, who founded Doshisha. Adjacent to Doshisha's facilities, access was restricted by the influence of Corona other than school officials. Looking into Teramachi-dori, it was a fairly vast Western-style building.
The former residence of Jo Niijima is open to the public several times a year. The inside is very retro and it's nice to be free. It's worth going once.
