Matsumae was a place where Russian Goronin, who was captured on Kuril Island, was confined for more than two years during the Edo period of the isolation of the country. I visited Hakodate on a trip following Kahei Takataya's footsteps. The monument stands quietly in the precincts of Tokuyama Daijingu in the immediate vicinity. This is a museum that introduces the history of Matsumae, but it was a pity that there was no exhibition related to Goronin. I also parked here (free) and walked to Matsumae Jo castle.

The Matsumae Town Local Museum is located on the 2nd floor of the Matsumae Town Town Center, a 5-minute drive from Matsumae Town Hall. You can also walk from Matsumae Park. Although it is a small museum, a range of materials have been exhibited as a history of Matsumae from the Jomon period to the medieval period to the present age, and the exhibitions about Kitamae Bune and Ainu were particularly wonderful and interesting. There is a museum in a corner of the old school. Free. Go up to 2F first and go down to 1F on the way. The museum was a general Hokkaido local museum such as stuffed animals and residential sites.
