The Tenman Shrine, which was relocated from Kyoto by Kiyomori Hirai in 1180, is also dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, the god of wisdom. It is now a shrine for studying, and there are various guards. "Kitano" is actually the same as the Kitano Ijinkan where the shrine is located, it is a nearby place name. The shrine's existing main hall, tori, worship hall, and torii are all buildings from the early Edo years, and are designated as Kobe City's traditional architectural cultural properties.
