Mangshi Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Menghuan Grand Golden Pagoda Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Annual review! The architecture of this niche city in Mangshi is too stunning
I have traveled to 12 cities this year,
I have seen a lot of buildings along the way,
I saw European retro buildings in Dalian,
I saw Qianhu Miao Village in Guizhou,
I saw the characteristic small town of the Bai nationality in Dali,
And the Dai-style huts in Mangshi,
The most stunning for me are the golden and silver towers in Mangshi,
Recommendation reason:
This niche border town has Southeast Asian-style buildings,
The golden and silver towers are the most representative, and you can experience Dai-style flavor without going abroad,
There are not many tourists here, the experience is very good, highly recommended.
🌈Mangshi 2-day tour route:
Tuanjie Road Pedestrian Street—Shubao Tower—Xinwan Factory Night Market
Menghuan Silver Tower—Menghuan Big Golden Tower—Dai Ancient Town
🔹Menghuan Big Golden Tower: You can look up in many places in Mangshi
This golden tower, navigate directly to the Big Golden Tower, parking at the door is 5 yuan/time, ticket 40r, you can take pictures at the door.
🔹Silver Tower: The silver white tower, 100 meters away from the Golden Tower, is a good place to watch the sunset and the night view of Mangshi. The top of the tower is hung with wind chimes, swaying in the wind, crisp and pleasant.
In addition to these, we feel that we can go to the Dongfeng Wholesale Market and the Hongli Comprehensive Market. These two places are not far apart, and the fruits and vegetables in the market are very good, and there are some Southeast Asian trinkets

Explore the frontier town and check in at the exotic Menghuan Golden Pagoda!
🏯It's not abroad, nor is it Xishuangbanna, this is the Menghuan Golden Pagoda in Dehong Mangshi, full of exotic charm! As a landmark building of Dehong Mangshi, it is a must-visit spot that cannot be missed!
😉The towering and spectacular golden pagoda shows its brilliance. Under the sunshine, it is even more dazzling. I am very fortunate to have watched the wonderful and lively Dai peacock dance under this golden pagoda, which is said to be a dance handed down from ancient times.
☀️The golden pagoda is an octagonal four-door design, hollow inside, it is a hollow Buddhist pagoda, a holy place for the local people to worship and pray. When I went a few days ago, two of the four doors were opened, and you can enter the pagoda to worship after taking off your shoes.
👏At its highest point, it is topped with a 2.3-ton golden dome, which is the first golden Buddhist pagoda in China and the first hollow Buddhist pagoda in Asia.
📷Recommended photo spots:
1⃣At the entrance of the scenic area (when there are many people, there may be multiple backgrounds)
2⃣At the four entrances of the pagoda (it is recommended to find a door that is not open)
3⃣Use other slightly lower pagodas in the scenic area as the background to take atmosphere photos.
💴Ticket: 40 at the scenic spot/38 online
🚗Transportation: Taxi or self-driving

✨Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda
As the iconic buildings of Mangshi, the Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda are one of the must-visit attractions. The exterior of the Golden Pagoda is very spectacular, you can take a taxi to get there, while the Silver Pagoda requires a ticket, you can take a sightseeing car or walk to get there.
📸Recommended photo spots: The bookstore under the Golden Pagoda is an excellent photo spot, where you can see the sunset outside, the scenery is very beautiful.
✨Mangshi Dai Ancient Town
The night view of the ancient town is very beautiful, but there are basically no people during the day, and there are many stalls and snacks at night.
✨Unity Street
A bustling block with Southeast Asian style, it's very photogenic on the street side.
✨Tree-wrapped Pagoda
A pagoda surrounded by big trees, but there are quite a lot of cars parked around, you need to find a good angle for taking pictures.
✨New Play Factory
A trendy block with graffiti walls, but it's not popular, and there's not much to eat.
Other recommended attractions: Dongfeng Wholesale Market and Hongli Comprehensive Market
🈹About the price: Since the guide does not mention the ticket prices and other expenses of each attraction, it is impossible to give a specific price summary. It is recommended to inquire about the ticket prices and other expenses of each attraction before traveling, so as to make a budget.
🚗Transportation: Check the flight and hotel information in advance, and choose the appropriate transportation to get there.
📸Photography tips: When taking pictures, you can pay attention to finding different angles and positions to get better shooting effects. For example, in the bookstore under the Golden Pagoda, you can use the floor-to-ceiling windows to shoot the sunset outside, and you can get very beautiful scenic photos.
Environmental protection: Also pay attention to protecting the environment when visiting attractions, do not litter, etc.
In summary, Mangshi is a city full of exotic charm and beautiful scenery, and I hope this guide can help you plan your trip better!

South-East Asian Templevibes in Mangshi
Mangshi in Dehong is a small city in Yunnan province, in the far Southwest of China. It's populated by Dai minority and other minorities. There are many Buddhist temples and Pagoda with a Thai flair, as the cultures are similar.
Menghuan Grand Golden Pagoda is one of the biggest temples in the area. We visited the temple with our motorbike and stayed about 2 hours visiting and exploring. You can go with a guide or explore alone.
🎟️ Entrance ticket was 35RMB per person. There is free parking for cars and scooters.

Meng Huan Silver Tower Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Dehong Travel | It's a real loss if you don't come here!
⚱️When traveling to Dehong, the Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Menghuan Silver Pagoda are a must-visit. The two towers stand on the Leiyarang Mountain on the edge of Mang City, reflecting each other, and from a distance, they look like the lively eyes of Mang City.
📍Location: At the top of Leiyarang Mountain by the Peacock Lake in Mang City
🎫Ticket: Both the Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda are 40r
🗼The Menghuan Golden Pagoda legend says that 'Sakyamuni' lived here when he was reincarnated as a golden rooster in his lifetime. The entire pagoda is magnificent, and it's very photogenic just taking pictures at the entrance. Inside, there are many precious items of Buddhism, which are worth seeing.
🦚In addition to the pagoda, the Peacock Dance is also very exciting. This is a folk dance where people wear peacock tails and imitate its dance. It's very lifelike and eye-catching. The peacock's spreading wings and drinking from the spring, the dance is rich in sculpture, each with different beauty and artistic conception.
🌙 The Silver Pagoda is hand-carved by craftsmen using Dai silver and other materials. It is a display of Dai architectural art and a heritage of local minority culture. To see the Silver Pagoda, you must first go to the top of the mountain. The sky and the big moon are really good for taking pictures. Everyone is lining up, and it's not too late to take pictures in the square later. Here, you can eat some ethnic snacks, look at the sea of flowers and the cityscape of Mang City, and find a place for your soul.
🗼Walk around the pagoda three times, pray for good luck, meditate quietly with the Sanskrit sounds coming from the Golden Pagoda, and give your weary body and mind a break from the mundane world. Or enjoy a sunset at the Menghuan Silver Pagoda surrounded by the fragrance of flowers, and watch the pagoda change into different colors and artistic conceptions.

China is a very suitable place for winter residence | Dehong
China's most suitable city for winter residence, in addition to the well-known cities such as Sanya, Beihai, and Banna, there is also a place that is very suitable for winter residence, that is, Dehong in Yunnan.
I have been traveling in Yunnan for half a month, from Shangri-La, Lijiang, Dali to Kunming, Dehong, I found that Dehong is the most comfortable, the daytime temperature is 24°, you can wear a thin long sleeve, not cold or hot, very comfortable.
And compared to Sanya, Beihai, Banna, Dehong has relatively fewer tourists, the cost of living is lower, and the cost of food, accommodation and transportation is lower, and the cost performance is relatively high.
I really like Dehong, in addition to the comfortable climate, the people here are also very enthusiastic, not xenophobic, and still maintain a relatively simple state.
I like Dehong, in addition to the enthusiastic people, there are also many delicious foods here, a wide variety of fruits, and the barbecue is very delicious (a local said that he went to Zibo, Shandong, and still thinks that the barbecue in Mangshi is more delicious).
I like Dehong, also because the local customs here are rich, the buildings are golden and brilliant, just like in Southeast Asia.
PS: The photos of the big gold tower and silver tower in Mangshi are really outstanding.
If you want to find a winter resort with a lower cost of living, Dehong is very good.

To visit this dreamy silver pagoda, I specifically took a trip to Mang City
🌟 Attraction Introduction:
Located in Mang City of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, the Menghuan Silver Pagoda is a dazzling jewel of Dai culture. This largest silver pagoda in Asia stuns with its glittering silver appearance and exquisite craftsmanship. The body of the pagoda is inlaid with countless gems, which shimmer under the sunlight, presenting a spectacle of beauty. Inside the pagoda, precious Buddhist relics are enshrined, and every inch of space is permeated with a strong religious atmosphere and ethnic charm, allowing you to deeply experience the faith and historical heritage of the Dai people while admiring the magnificent architecture.
📍 Itinerary Suggestion:
It is recommended that you arrive at the Menghuan Silver Pagoda in the morning, first visit the main pagoda and the surrounding Buddhist halls under the guidance of a tour guide to understand its profound cultural connotations (about 2 hours). In the afternoon, you can stroll in the gardens under the pagoda, enjoy the Dai-style garden landscape and various tropical plants, and experience the tranquil and far-reaching Zen life (1 hour). In the evening, the silver pagoda appears even more solemn and mysterious under the sunset, so why not wait for the sunset here and capture that incomparable moment of light and shadow (1 hour).
🍲 Food Recommendation:
Don't forget to taste the authentic Dai cuisine after your visit. There are several well-reputed Dai restaurants nearby, such as 'Dai Yun Flavor' and 'Green Leaf Banquet', with specialty dishes like sour bamboo shoot fish, pineapple rice, etc., each dish is full of the unique sour, spicy, and fresh flavors of Dai cuisine, sure to make your taste buds dance in the world of Dai food.
🚗 Transportation Tips:
Departing from the downtown area of Mang City, you can take a bus directly to the Menghuan Silver Pagoda scenic area, which takes about 30 minutes; if driving, travel along the South Ring Road of Mang City and turn right at the entrance of Menghuan Avenue, and you will arrive in about 15 minutes.
Travel Tips: Please respect local customs and habits, dress appropriately, remove shoes when entering temples, and keep quiet. Bring a camera to record the emotions and surprises that this holy land of Dai culture brings to you.
A trip to the Menghuan Silver Pagoda is not only a visual feast but also a deep interpretation of Dai culture. You can not only enjoy high-quality services but also enrich your life experience and collect wonderful memories through this journey. We look forward to you finding your own unique travel story here!

I thought Xishuangbanna was already beautiful, until I came to Mang City! | May Day travel guide
If you're looking for a city with few people, beautiful scenery, a slow pace, and plenty of delicious food to spend the winter, then come to Mang City. Compared to the crowded and commercialized Xishuangbanna, Mang City is really worth the rush!
Mang City is not busy, and a citywalk measured by your own feet is just too suitable for Mang City.
Here is a specific citywalk route, which can be copied directly, and basically all the fun places in Mang City are included.
Mang City was formerly known as 'Menghuan', which means 'City of Dawn' in Dai language, as it is said that when the Buddha arrived in Mang City, it was just dawn, and what he saw was the dawn, which also represents hope and devotion.
⛱️ How to play:
➡️ Tuanjie Street, Baobo Road, Bodhi Street: All are very suitable for casual strolling.
➡️ Shubao Tower: A tower in a tree, and a tree in a tower.
➡️ Menghuan Big Golden Pagoda: The landmark of Mang City is none other than this, it is China's first golden Buddha pagoda, and also Asia's first hollow Buddha pagoda. Recommended to go at sunset.
➡️ Menghuan Silver Pagoda: Right opposite the golden pagoda, very close, just a few hundred meters walk away. If the golden pagoda is the sun of Mang City, the silver pagoda is the moon. The two look at each other, guarding this small city together. I went to the silver pagoda first, bought a ticket for 40 yuan per person, and climbed the mountain to see the silver pagoda and the golden pagoda looking at each other from a distance, very beautiful.
➡️ Bodhi Temple: Combines Han and Dai architectural styles.
➡️ Mengbana Xi Rare Garden: There are many free-roaming peacocks, and it's very pleasant to stroll in the woods.
➡️ Three Trees Style Street: A very leisurely street, with two rows of beautiful palm trees.
➡️ Dai Ethnic Ancient Town: I don't really recommend it personally, it's a kind of man-made ancient town, if you want to visit the night market, you can go to see the night view, not many people during the day.
🍭 How to eat:
➡️ Mang Apricot Yanxing Barbecue: Highly recommended. The whole village of Mang Apricot is barbecue, and it is the most surprising existence of this trip, the barbecue is simply too delicious, you must eat the grilled fish, and it's super cheap!
➡️ Rotten Road Breakfast: Many people recommended it so I went, the taste is average, I didn't find it particularly delicious, but it's also not bad.
➡️ Dreamy Dehong: If you want to try Mang City specialties in one restaurant, you can come here, Sapie is a must-order here, but I'm not used to it.
➡️ Best Taste Food: There are also many classic snacks from Mang City here, Gan Ying chicken feet are highly recommended, I think the Shaibababa made by the carts on Bingwu Road is better than here.
➡️ Lei Ya Rang Sunset Coffee: Very recommended, the scenery is very good, very comfortable.

I embarked on a journey of exotic charm in Mang City
1. The Mang City Golden Pagoda (Menghuan Big Golden Pagoda) is open until 10 pm, with an admission fee of 40 yuan. The pagoda is located on a mountain (you can ride a small electric scooter to the foot of the mountain, then walk 1 kilometer uphill). It can also be seen from some places at the foot of the mountain. I went there at night, and the close-up view at night is very beautiful. The inside of the pagoda is hollow, housing a large Buddhist hall. There is also an observation deck in the scenic area where you can see the cityscape. The estimated visiting time is about 30 minutes.
2. The Mang City Silver Pagoda (Menghuan Silver Pagoda) is very close to the Golden Pagoda, with an admission fee of 40 yuan. I visited during the day, and after entering, you have to climb a bit to get there. You cannot enter the Silver Pagoda, but you can see the Golden Pagoda while climbing the Silver Pagoda. If you don't want to go inside the Golden Pagoda, visiting the Silver Pagoda is also an option. Climbing the Silver Pagoda takes about 1 hour of visiting time.
3. Peacock Lake is very close to the foot of the Golden and Silver Pagoda mountains and is a local walking trail for exercise. It's a nice place to take a leisurely stroll if you have the time.
4. Bodhi Temple is accessible by a small electric scooter in the city, and it also houses a Buddhist hall. It's a nice spot to visit while wandering around the city, and there was no admission fee when I entered.
5. The Dai Minority Ancient Town is a commercial pedestrian street with an ethnic minority style. Going there in the evening to browse the night market, eat from a hot pot, and take a walk is a good choice.
6. Shubao Pagoda is a distinctive pagoda located in the city. The pagoda is inside a tree, and you can reach it by taking a walk during the day.
7. Mengbana Xi Rare Garden has an admission fee of 40 yuan. Inside, there are mostly bamboo forests to see, and the main attraction is to learn about some of the local precious timbers (silicified wood). The visit is quite enjoyable. There are also many peacocks raised inside, and you can get close to them (when I visited, the male peacocks were frantically displaying their feathers, which was very beautiful). The visiting time inside is about 1.5 hours.
8. Peacock Valley Forest Park is 15 kilometers away from the city by car. I drove there myself. The admission fee plus shuttle bus is 98 yuan per person, with a package ticket of 138 yuan (including all the chargeable attractions inside and the shuttle bus). If you don't buy the package ticket, some attractions inside require an additional fee: jungle leap is 20 yuan, glass tower is 10 yuan, and glass walkway is 30 yuan (you can bargain during the off-season). The Peacock Garden and Hundred Birds Garden do not require extra money. There are fixed-time peacock flying performances, and I watched the 12:30 show. There are also other animals to see, and a highlight is seeing the white peacocks. You can take close-up photos with the peacocks in the Peacock Garden. The visiting time is about 2-3 hours.

Jinggu Tree-wrapped Pagoda
The Mengwo Buddhist Temple Twin Pagoda, commonly known as the Tree-wrapped Pagoda and Pagoda-wrapped Tree, was initially built by Wei Yuan Tuguan Renhan Chen during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is a Buddhist pagoda of the Southern Transmission, with a square base, each side 4 meters long, made of red sandstone in the form of a multi-layered lotus. The pagoda body is made of green bricks in the shape of a gourd. The Tree-wrapped Pagoda is 10.7 meters high, and the pagoda has been wrapped by a Bodhi tree, with the tree crown about 25 meters high. The Pagoda-wrapped Tree is 7.2 meters high, and the Bodhi tree on the top of the pagoda is about 20 meters high. The bodies of the twin pagodas are carved with Buddhist stories, folk tales, and stone carvings of animals, plants, and flowers. It is a precious material for studying the religion, culture, and history of the Dai people, and has high historical and artistic value.

Successfully followed the trend to Mangshi for reverse tourism!
This Spring Festival came to Mangshi for reverse tourism
It's really the most successful trend-following time🥹
The Southeast Asian style of this border town is simply 💯
It's too suitable for dawdling, sunbathing and visiting temples!!
1️⃣Menghuan Gold Tower/Menghuan Silver Tower
If you like to take photos, I recommend the Silver Tower more, you can overlook the two big towers from the top, very Southeast Asian, the Silver Tower is very photogenic!
🌅It's best to go around 10 o'clock in the morning or around 6 o'clock in the afternoon, it won't be very hot and the sunlight is also soft~
2️⃣Tree Wrapped Tower
🌳The first sight is super shocking!! The big tree wraps around the tower body and grows, but the tower only has cracks but does not break, sitting under the tree to rest is very calming.
3️⃣Hongli Comprehensive Market
🥭I really became a fruit expert in Mangshi! This vegetable market is very regular, there are also fair scales and so on, the variety of fruits is rich and super sweet!
4️⃣Unity Street
🌴You can see the plane flying low! Both sides are full of coconut trees! It has the taste of a Southeast Asian tropical small town.
5️⃣Tea Bran Shampoo
💆You must must experience!! With shoulder and neck massage, it's very cheap! During the Spring Festival, those popular stores either closed or were full, so I randomly chose one across the market, all are Burmese little sisters who press very comfortably✌️

I regret not going to the remote small town of Mangshi in Yunnan earlier
Just back from Mangshi: A guide to avoid tourist traps for an average of 400 RMB for two days and one night, if you're planning a trip to Mangshi soon, save this 💯
✅ I want to share this border town with everyone. If your trip is focused on food, you must visit this town named with a single character 【Mangshi】. It's an obscure, fun, and delicious frontier town. 🙀🙀 The rice noodles you pass by hand, the night market in the evening, and the random small shops you find on the street, all offer incredibly tasty food at very affordable prices.
🚗 Transportation: We drove from Dali for a 4-hour road trip. It's fun and convenient for two people or a group to choose self-driving. Alternatively, you can fly ✈️ as there is no direct high-speed train to Mangshi from Kunming. You have to take a bus from Kunming to Baoshan, then from Baoshan to Mangshi by coach.
🛵 City transportation: Mangshi is quite small, so I don't recommend renting a car. You can scan for an electric scooter when you leave the hotel, stop wherever you want to take photos, which is very convenient.
🏨 Accommodation: There's not much to visit in Mangshi, it's mainly about eating and experiencing the local culture and atmosphere. Staying one night is enough. Choose a hotel near Peacock Lake for a full-on holiday vibe.
👀 Attractions:
🔹 Menghuan Silver Pagoda and Golden Pagoda, the two pagodas are close to each other, and the Silver Pagoda is more photogenic than the Golden Pagoda, especially under the sunshine on a clear day, it shines brilliantly. I don't recommend going inside the Golden Pagoda, as the photo effect is not much different from the outside.
🔹 Dai Minority Ancient Town (free) is a commercial ancient town, mainly for taking photos and checking in after the lights are on at night, which is quite photogenic.
🔹 Menghuan Street: Many girls who come to Mangshi will definitely take photos of the coconut tree-lined street (personally, I think the scenery is beautiful enough, after all, there are too many vehicles coming and going on the road, and it's not very safe to take photos on the highway).
🥘 Food:
🔹 Best Food City: The avocado juice with Gan Ying soaked chicken feet is really good, and you can casually stroll and eat.
🔹 Mengbana Xi Food City: You must go here for barbecue at night (the barbecue at Luo Ji's Secret Recipe Meat Skewers is simply yyds). Other barbecues are said to be very good by friends, choose a place with more people to eat, you can't go wrong, because Mangshi is simply a late-night snack paradise, every place tastes great.
🔹 Hongli Comprehensive Market is really big, we only visited the fruit area, and bought some snacks nearby.
🔹 Plum Coffee
🔹 Menghuan Ice Cool: A local favorite snack shop, the pounded pigskin is too delicious, very chewy.
🔹 Qi Zhi Xia Pu: Five-star recommendation! The spicy frog is super tender, the shrimp is very fresh, they even help peel it, and the ice pineapple is also delicious.
🌈 The attractions in Mangshi can only be described as few but exquisite. The Golden Pagoda and Silver Pagoda are must-visits. If you have time, leisurely stroll around Peacock Lake, the scenery and air are truly yyds. Experience the slow life in this frontier town with Southeast Asian charm, ride an electric scooter, enjoy the snacks, and let yourself slow down.

Mang City | Come experience the authentic Water-Splashing Festival in April!!! ||
|Mang City | Come experience the authentic Water-Splashing Festival in April!!! ||. Mang City | Come experience the authentic Water-Splashing Festival in April!!! ||| 7 days and 6 nights☁️ First stop of the Yunnan trip——Mang City🥭
During my seven days and six nights in Mang City, I fully experienced the unique charm of the Water-Splashing Festival and also appreciated the local customs of Mang City. Here is a summary and reflection on my trip.
📍Two-day and one-night travel itinerary in Mang City:
🚩Day 1: Visit Menghuan Golden Pagoda and Menghuan Silver Pagoda, a 10-minute walk away. Along the way, I encountered local ethnic minorities distributing their special mixed noodles, which were delicious and warm! In the afternoon, I participated in the Water-Splashing Festival activities held in the Dai ancient town, where the central square was lively with a DJ shouting and rapping! In the evening, I tasted the delicacies of the food city and the Xinwan Factory night market, personally preferring the Xinwan Factory night market!
🚩Day 2: In the morning, head to the Hongxing Market to enjoy the local breakfast and buy Mang City's special fruits for the return trip. Then visit the Bodhi Temple and Tree-Wrapped Pagoda. The local driver told us that the Water-Splashing Festival in Mang City lasts for several days, and each village will hold its own festival. Today happens to be the day of the Water-Splashing Festival in Pine Tree Village, so we decided to go and visit.
📍The Water-Splashing Festival banquet in Pine Tree Village is held at noon, and we asked if we could join, and the local villagers warmly welcomed us. If you are too shy to join the banquet, the nearby Pine Tree Village farmhouse is also a good choice. After lunch, we experienced the Water-Splashing Festival ceremony in the village and felt the real fun of the local people's Water-Splashing Festival.
🔑Tips: The Water-Splashing Festival starts when the sun rises at noon, and no matter where you walk, you will be splashed with water. You just need to happily accept these blessings! Remember to close the windows tightly when taking a taxi, so you won't get splashed! The Water-Splashing Festival ends when the sun sets, and the activities will gradually come to an end.
This trip to Mang City left a deep impression on me. Whether it was the mixed noodles distributed by the local ethnic minorities, the invitation from the villagers of Pine Tree Village to join their banquet, or even the acts of kindness along the way, I felt the human care of the people of Mang City. This unexpected touch is something I will never forget.
