"Laomdeng" is a Bai language, meaning "the place where the purple bamboo grows". The Old Mudeng Church is the largest church in the Nujiang Gorge. The blue brick walls, red lacquered wooden windows, and tin roofs are simple and simple, showing the purity and piety of people's beliefs. As early as 1902, French missionaries began to cross the Biluo Snow Mountain from the Cizhong area and came to the Nujiang area to preach and established many churches. Old Mden Church is the larger of them. From the outside, the church is not spectacular. There are no common stained glass windows, domes, and iconic Gothic spires. There are not even musical instruments such as an organ. There are only benches and red lacquered wood windows. But this does not hinder people's piety. Every Sunday, believers in the surrounding villages will gather here to worship.
