Beautiful little community. I came into Kinosaki by train from Osaka which was a long and uneventful ride. Maybe around 3 hours travel time.
The scenery on the trip over was gorgeous as the city centers dip and gave way to rural Japan. The train station is in the center of town and right next to it was one of the 7 onsens that overnight visitors are allowed to frequent with just a pass. And if you chose to explore around town before check in to your hotel, there is a small storefront with lockers across from the visitor center where you can store your belongings. Luggage drop off and delivery to your hotel is also available in the store right next to the locker storage if you prefer that.
The main shopping area was lined with souvenir shops, fish markets, and small restaurants. I think for first time visitors, something I wish I was told beforehand too, they should be aware that everything closes around 4pm-5pm. By 6pm, if you are one of the ones who opted out of eating in your ryokan and chose to venture out for dinner, just know that it is very hard to find a restaurant that would still be open at this time. If you have to try your luck with food, the grocery stores are still open until 9pm so you can pick up something quick from there after bathing.
The whole place is very atmospheric. And I think it is very much a place that anyone who likes to take pictures would enjoy.
The onsen houses are spread out in the area beyond the shops and along the waterway. And after dark, it is possibly the only thing you can really do in town since everything else is closed. If you are one of the ones who came for onsen hopping in the 7 bathhouses and worry about seeing them all.
This time we stayed at the famous Oedo Onsen Hotel in Chengqi Hot Springs. After you have checked in, you can choose your favorite bathrobe and then enjoy the hot spring tour. Kinosaki Onsen was discovered in more than 1300 years. Although it is located on the side of the Sea of Japan, there are a large number of trams from Osaka and Kyoto every day. Usually, the cold current hits the sea side of Japan every January. There will be heavy snow in the winter in this area, but in this snowy weather, the nest will enjoy every moment in the warm hot spring hotel.
Japan's service has made all the people who have been there praised because of its meticulous and thoughtful service, such as the scalp massage from the makeup remover, facial cleanser, toner, lotion to hair care to the massage in the spa. Oil, and even hair removal cream and foot care cream have... In short, my own things are not so complete.
