Thompsons Arms Cottages

Absolutly amazing, owners are brilliant and make you feel really welcome, both husband and wife made you feel comfortable and will be using the again often

My friend Tony and I stayed here for one night in May 2023. Tony had a room in the main pub building but I had a one bedroom"cottage" in the courtyard. We were both delighted with our accommodation - clean and well-maintained. The cottage had a fully-equipped kitchenette including an oven, microwave, pots and pans etc... The bar of the pub only opens for evening trade and if there are no customers after 9pm it will close early. Stuart the landlord and his wife Lili were friendly and welcoming and they offered a nice full English breakfast in the morning - served in the bar area at a supplementary cost of £7.50 each. We used the place as a base for walking and this included a nice long ramble around the Castle Howard estate which is four miles east of the "Thompsons Arms". It was a perfect place to stay and good value too. I would happily return.

Nice little village pub. Locals came in for drinks in the evening and it was very competitive prices. Comfortable bed, tv in room. Shower wasnt the most powerful but it works and its warm. Hosts are nice and the breakfast was yummy. (They have 2 cute little dogs that we saw on check-in ). Was only 15 mins drive to york centre. We stayed in the rooms above the pub not the outside rooms like we thought it was from the photos online but it was still nice. Wasnt much within walking distance so would need a car to hunt for food in the evening but there are a few places not too far drive.

We went for a weekend. It was respite as we have a disabled daughter. Everything was just right. Sofa was a bit low, as we are 69 and 74 yeas in age so it was hard on the knees. But other than that it was warm and cosy and quiet. We enjoyed our rest. Thank you.

Excellent, traditional b&b. We stayed for 2 nights for a wedding at nearby Sandburn Hall and couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Stuart was so helpful and made us feel very welcome, even giving us a lift to and from the wedding. Breakfast was lovely and great value for money. Highly recommend a stay here!

first time staying at the Thompson arms, and we definitely hope to return. A friendly welcome by Stuart, and the one bed cottage was lovely. The cottage was very clean and situated in a charming gated courtyard. Everything you could need for a short stay is available, including an iron and ironing board to help with those packing case creases!! We only stayed for one night to attend an event close by, but wished it had been longer. The price of drinks in the pub made a refreshing change from the over inflated price we are used to being charged, and the a**osphere was welcoming. An added bonus is that the pub is also dog friendly. We opted to have a full English breakfast, and are very glad we did. Reasonably priced and delicious, complements to the chef! If you want good value and a warm welcome, I would highly recommend.

Lovely welcome and an excellent breakfast

Greeted by a lovely host - really polite and quickly showed me to my accommodation. Brilliant little cottage with secure parking and facilities in the cottage were great - lovely little kitchen. Pub was lovely and bustling with locals too - felt very welcome. 100% recommend and will stay again when working in the area

Lovely little cottage, very clean and secure. The Wi-Fi did not work and TV reception was poor. Owners are very friendly and helpful but had to leave us because of attending a wedding therefore were not on site to resolve issues. Thompson Fish Restaurant was nearby offering superb food.
