Shijing Bridge

Shijing Bridge is located in Shijing Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City. The bridge was built in the eleventh year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1831). The whole bridge is 68 meters long, 3.8 meters wide, and has 6 piers. There are stone railings on both sides of the bridge, and a pavilion is built at each end. The west pavilion has been demolished, and the east pavilion is still there. The pavilion is on the top of the mountain with green glazed tiles. At the west end of the bridge, there is a stone inscription "Daoguang Years Xinmao". Ishii Bridge is a historical witness to the invasion of China by other countries in modern history. In September of the sixth year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty (1856), the British used the "Yarrow" incident as an excuse to send warships to bomb Guangzhou City on the 23rd, provoking a war. In the first month of the second year, France and the United Kingdom formed an aggression coalition and bombarded Guangzhou in December. The citizens of Guangzhou organized a regiment to fight against the invaders. At that time, Ishijing Township here was more active in mass armed forces. Now, on the stone fence of Ishijing Bridge, there are still bullet holes that were shelled by the invading army at that time.
