This hotel boasts a fantastic location, right by the Qinhuai River. The room was clean and tidy, and the service was warm and attentive. I loved the traditional, ancient-style ambiance. It's super convenient for getting around and finding places to eat. My stay was incredibly satisfying, and overall, it offers great value for money. The room's hygiene was excellent, and there are tons of local snacks nearby. It's a peaceful spot despite being in a bustling area. This is a really suitable place to stay when visiting Nanjing.

After a refreshing nap, I was energized enough to explore the Nan Yuan Hotel. This used to be Chiang Wei-kuo's former residence and is the city's only garden-style guesthouse, essentially a Suzhou-style garden you can stay in. It has everything you'd expect: rockeries, ponds, winding bridges, and waterside pavilions. The best part? No tourists. The garden was perfectly peaceful, with only the sound of birds and the rustle of wind through the bamboo leaves. My mom finally relaxed, saying, 'Now *this* is how you enjoy a garden!' I laughed, thinking about how we paid to see crowds this morning, and now we've got peace and quiet for free. You really can't predict how things will turn out in life.

The rooms are neat and clean, and the customer service is warm and attentive. It's my top choice every time I visit Suzhou for a short stay. The breakfast is rich and varied, with freshly squeezed juices, Suzhou specialty snacks like osmanthus chilled cakes, Jiangnan Yachu's characteristic garden-style square cakes, and special red soup noodles with mini wontons. The location is excellent; Suzhou Center is just across the road from the hotel, and transportation is convenient. You can also use your room card to swim at the Crowne Plaza.

Service: I stayed here during the May Day holiday. The front desk contacted me in advance to confirm my estimated arrival time and proactively helped me with my luggage to the parking lot. After a brief chat, my booked courtyard room was upgraded for free to a third-floor river-view king room. The Qinhuai River was right outside the balcony door of the living room. The staff also kindly informed me of the best viewing times and explained all the room's amenities. Environment: The hotel's location is excellent, peaceful yet central. The room was meticulously clean, and the public areas were bright and tidy. Value-added services: The minibar offered complimentary drinks, snacks, and two facial masks. The public area on the first floor provided a variety of traditional Chinese clothing for guests to use for free photos, including Hanfu, horse-face skirts, and qipaos. They were varied, clean, and suitable for women of all sizes. Breakfast: Breakfast was a semi-buffet, featuring the hotel's special noodles and Nanjing's local pastries and cold dishes, all quite rich and delicious.

This time, I stayed at Mo Keyuan from August 14th to 15th. When I was choosing a hotel, I was quite surprised to see Mo Keyuan had nothing but glowing reviews. After staying there, I realized that both its facilities and service are indeed exceptional. **Ambiance & Location:** In terms of its location, it's merely 50 meters from Pingjiang Road, and within comfortable walking distance of Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove Garden, and Suzhou Museum. It's also nestled in the same alley as the famous Zhuo Lin Li Tang Zhou (a traditional dessert shop), just 20-30 meters away, and shares an adjacent alley with Couple's Retreat Garden. This geographical positioning is simply superb! The hotel itself is a numbered private garden with five interconnected courtyards, boasting exquisite rockeries, ponds, and bridges. Its design is incredibly intricate, offering distinct scenic views with every turn. Guanhuatang, a key hall, is the central room in the innermost of these five courtyards. The front desk is located in the first courtyard, exuding an antique charm. Upon entering the second courtyard, you're greeted by a misty, ethereal atmosphere, providing a refreshing coolness on hot days and adding a wonderful artistic touch. The third courtyard houses the banquet hall, while the fourth and fifth are dedicated to guest rooms. In reality, this compound is far more complex than it appears, with the unique asymmetrical structure typical of Suzhou gardens revealing many delightful surprises. **Cleanliness:** Everywhere I looked was impeccably clean. Unlike other Chinese courtyards I've stayed in, at Mo Keyuan, all areas (except guest rooms and staff offices) are openly accessible. Furthermore, the furniture inside is exceptionally well-maintained and clean, giving the impression that they are actively used daily. The rooms were subtly pre-scented with incense, and the bathrooms were also spotless. **Facilities:** Mo Keyuan boasts comprehensive facilities, offering both dining options and captivating Pingtan (Suzhou storytelling and ballad singing) performances. Guests can enjoy these performances for free, held in a charming small hall in the second courtyard, which serves as both a restaurant and a performance venue. The performance hall is very well-equipped, featuring background projection and automatic stage curtains, truly showing great attention to detail. Furthermore, before checking in, I was somewhat concerned about security. However, upon arrival, I found that the visitor and guest areas are effectively separated by access control, ensuring both privacy and safety. **Service:** The service was incredibly attentive. The butler was always ready to answer any questions and had an excellent, friendly attitude. Every staff member had a great service attitude and was remarkably patient. Due to a last-minute change in our itinerary, we only decided quite late that we wanted to have lunch at Mo Keyuan the next day. However, the butler arranged it perfectly, and we got to savor the Squirrel-shaped Mandarin Fish and Crab Roe Tofu we had hoped for. The hotel's shuttle service was even more convenient, saving us precious time and effort when visiting the Humble Administrator's Garden, Suzhou Museum, and Lion Grove Garden. We also had the pleasure of meeting the garden owner this time, who was very approachable and clearly poured their heart and soul into managing this exquisite garden. **Daily Pingtan Performance (2 Tickets):** The Pingtan performance was excellent. The young lady sang beautifully and spoke with such gentle grace; experiencing the 'Wu Nong Soft Language' (Suzhou dialect) live was truly delightful. The performance also included complimentary Biluochun tea and homemade mung bean cakes, making it a truly enjoyable experience. I'm extremely glad I chose Mo Keyuan this time. My only regret is not being able to stay an extra night to spend half a day simply wandering around the garden, sipping tea, watching the fish, and relaxing – that would have been utterly tranquil and perfect.

⭐ Suzhou Shantang Shuxiang Mansion | Prime Location, But 5-Star Quality Doesn't Justify 5-Star Price (3-Day, 2-Night Honest Review) 📍 Location: ★★★★★ (Irreplaceable) ✅ Right in the heart of Shantang Street scenic area (No. 88 Shantang Street). Step out and you're on the ancient street, perfect for exploring and dining. ✅ Quiet yet central: Outside, it's the bustling city life; inside, it's a Suzhou-style garden with white walls, black tiles, and flowing water – incredibly atmospheric. ✅ Convenient transportation: About a 7-minute walk to Shantang Street Metro Station, making it easy to get to attractions like Humble Administrator's Garden and Tiger Hill by taxi or subway. 🏡 Facilities & Environment: Garden is a plus, details are a minus ✔️ Highlights: Converted from a Ming and Qing dynasty guild hall, with a Chinese courtyard and carved window frames – great for ancient-style photos; rooms are individual villas, offering good privacy. ❌ Drawbacks (unacceptable for a 5-star hotel): • Facilities are a bit old (renovated in 2016), with some furniture wear and tear and aging fixtures. Lacks the refinement of a 5-star hotel. • Cleaning blind spots: Dust in corners, obvious water stains on bathroom glass; encountered a cockroach on the first day (promptly handled, but still unpleasant). • Soundproofing is average: Street-facing rooms can hear street noise, so it's not absolutely quiet. 🛎️ Service: Good attitude, but lacks professionalism ✔️ Basic service is up to par: Bellhops help with luggage, smooth check-in/check-out process; free Pingtan performances in the afternoon, and Hanfu experience available by reservation. ❌ 5-star service shortcomings: • Slow response: Calling the butler/front desk often results in a wait of over 15 minutes, with no proactive greetings or follow-ups. • Lack of detail: No turndown service; breakfast selection is limited and quality is average, lacking the variety of a 5-star buffet. 💰 Value for Money: Location seriously overpriced, quality doesn't match the price • Room rates are approximately 1200-2000 RMB/night. The core premium comes from its rare location within the Shantang scenic area. • Compared to other 5-star hotels at the same price point (e.g., InterContinental, Marriott), there are significant gaps in facilities, service, and dining. It feels more like a high-end garden guesthouse than a luxury hotel. ✅ Summary & Recommendations (Expert's Honest Opinion) Suitable for: • Travelers seeking an immersive Jiangnan garden experience in a prime location, with a generous budget, who prioritize atmosphere over facilities. • Those who enjoy ancient-style photography, exploring Shantang Street, and prefer not to rush around. Not suitable for: • Business travelers or quality-conscious guests who expect standard 5-star service, refined facilities, and absolute privacy/quietness. • Travelers seeking high value for money and unwilling to pay a high premium for location. In a nutshell: Irreplaceable location, but not truly 5-star quality. Choose based on your needs, and book rationally.

I picked this hotel at random and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The infinity pool was absolutely amazing! We'll definitely be back in the fall/winter seasons, and the kids had a fantastic time. The bedding was clean and comfortable, and even the toothbrush and toothpaste were of excellent quality. These small details really show how much thought the hotel puts into its guests' experience.

The place is beautiful. The rooms/cottages of the hotel are spread around a nice area. There is a vegetable garden and kids could feed the goats and rabbit. My kids loved the hotel and the room. Front desk gave us kids slippers and toothbrushes and a bag full of treats and snacks for the kids. Beds were very comfortable and the family room was beautiful with a balcony looking to the canal. Black swans swimming in there. The private outside hot bathtub was cool. They gave us some activity tickets (kids cookies baking, two free coffee cups and free entrance to the park beside), sadly we couldn’t use them, because we came noon and went to visit a different area , then left the next day after breakfast. The outside hotel surroundings are nice and peaceful. The food was great! Breakfast buffet is delicious. I would recommend it. There was a staff speaking English, but was not necessary for us. The service is very good and friendly…I’ll return.

The hotel's location is excellent, right next to Jinling Hotel and across the street from Deji Plaza. The room's decor is simple and comfortable, the bedroom is spacious enough, and while the bathroom is a bit small, it's well laid out. The double-glazed windows provide good sound insulation, so despite being in a bustling area, it's very quiet at night for sleeping. The front desk staff were quite friendly. During the day, there was occasional renovation noise from other floors in the building, but none at night. You have to transfer elevators once on the seventh floor, but this is a minor issue, and overall, it offers great value for money.
