The Queen at Chester Hotel, BW Premier Collection

Just returned from a two day stay at the hotel with work. This hotel is centrally located next to the railway station. A typical hotel that caters for coach tours and corporate types. My room was on the ground floor of the main building. First of all the room was average and basic. Not serviced over two days either? Rubber bath mat was mouldy and dirty on the bottom. Window would not open either. The main issue was the strong smell of cannabis in the corridor that was a constant throughout my stay. In addition the room next door had a noisy room party as it was full of some Eastern European workers. Went quiet after midnight however. Would not recommend this hotel unless your on a budget. Premier inns are far superior in my opinion. Food and drink : Beer in the bar “real ale” was rank ! Food was ok but service was slow two hours for a two course meal to be gotten through. Breakfast was good though. Staff were polite throughout. Car parking is expensive £15 per night and not very secure.

We were a group of 10 girls and were assured of 5 twin rooms when one of us rang hotel but this was not provided on check in The bar lacked any atmosphere and staff lacked any personality My friend accidentally knocked over her expensive glass of wine untouched and was not offered a replacement she had to pay again Not an expected response from a big chain hotel On the positive side housekeeping staff were excellent looking after our needs and providing us with glasses and ice buckets as we were celebrating two milestone birthdays Rooms were comfortable and clean and a decent size

This so called country house hotel is really a motel hiding behind the facade of a grand property. The reception and lounge areas are imposing and impressive, but our bedroom was small with just a double bed and no additional features or comforts to elevate it above an ordinary budget hotel. The mattress was very soft and uncomfortable and had a mattress topper to try and disguise this. The bathroom was quite small and on day 2 there was no hot water for a shower. We were told by reception that this was because of a power surge which had affected the local area, but friends and family staying in a nearby hotel weren’t affected so we’re not certain whether this was really the case. Anyway, we weren’t offered any compensation - just an apology and shrugged shoulders saying it was beyond their control. Breakfast was okay but supplies kept running out and the staff were overwhelmed. You could order additional items like poached eggs but we weren’t told about this and only discovered it when we saw other guests being served. Overall a disappointing experience and we wouldn’t rush back. We’d rather pay a third of the price and stay at a Premier Inn which offers a consistent standard, king sized beds and hot showers!
