📍 Behmstraße 27, Pankow, Berlin
★★★★ 8.7 (220 reviews)

"The woman receptionist named was very rude and ******. She would be smiling to a white guy and rolling her eyes to us the next second (we are Asian.) Check-in needs to be done on the self service tablet, she didn’t offered any help other than impatiently telling go to the machine with her eyes rolling. One of the room initially assigned to us was defective: there’s no WiFi signal in the room. We asked if we could switch to another as everything in the room remained intact and there were clearly other rooms (you can even book a new one right away online!!) She just refused us saying all rooms are full, and saying that she doesn’t care if we would like to leave a negative review online. We had in total three rooms but we found surprisingly no room in a perfect state: one doesn’t have WiFi, one’s sink drainage is clogged, one’s coffee machine didn’t work….. Anyway, none of us had an experience that you would expect from a 4-star hotel."

"The beds were comfortable but not wide enough. The pillows were uncomfortable. The room had a bad smell when entering. The breakfast was plentiful with a good variety of everything. I also enjoyed the free bottles of water and the bonbons. Unfortunately there was no fridge in the room. There was only a kettle for coffee. The location of the hotel was nice, near hofbrau haus. The underground garage was convenient. The price was a little bit high. I recommend the hotel."

"Good hotel, great location, but disappointed with the service… either you stay for one night or 4 nights they will only put once water in your room when you first arrive. Which is not fair for people who pays for several nights. I asked the front desk and they simple said no. Same about the Sauna… there is a sauna in the hôtel but it’s only open from 6pm!! Til 11pm. That means we cannot go at all in the morning which is silly. So i went there at 6 pm but i had to ask the front desk to turn it on but they forgot about me and at 7pm it was still not on. Very bad."

NH Collection Berlin Mitte am Checkpoint Charlie Hotels in Berlin

NH Collection Berlin Mitte am Checkpoint Charlie

"Overall I like this hotel. However the service by 1 rude receptionist should be improved. check in experience was ruined by lady receptionist. Service at reception The full payment including city taxes have been paid via my credit card upon booking. The payments paid and breakdown including city taxes are stated very clearly on the booking voucher. However despite this, I was asked to pay a deposit of amount close to Euro 600 which was the full amount of my stay that was paid using my credit card. Upon asking, I asked the trainee/Lena why I have to pay so much again when I had paid the full amount via credit card. Lena then checked with the another lady receptionist on the deposit that should be secured. However, this lady receptionist informed us to pay a deposit of euro 50 which I have no issue. However, she rudely informed me that I have to pay city tax. I told her that it has been paid and I showed her the booking voucher which clearly shows that city taxes have been paid. But she informed rudely that the amount was charged in other currency, not Euro. Seriously, when I heard this, I was shocked with the “intelligence” of this lady receptionist. She needs to be educated on what is “foreign currency equivalent” and to have some common sense. I disputed this and insisted that i had paid the full amount including city taxes, which was stated very clearly on the booking voucher. Lena agreed with me and reiterated to this lady receptionist that the booking voucher indeed stated that all payments including city taxes have been paid. Thereafter, the lady receptionist left rudely without any apologies. The receptionists should be trained and their service should be improved. Firstly, they should have checked that I have fully paid and should not secure a a deposit of almost euro 600. Only when I asked, they rechecked, but no apologies. Secondly, even after they rechecked, they did not check clearly that city taxes have been paid and insisted me to pay city taxes. No apologies either when they found out. The service from the lady receptionist (shorter girl with curly hair) was so rude and no apologies even though she was wrong in the first place. I highlighted this issue and feedback to the shiftleader, Andreas Levi and made known to him about the receptionists. He immediately went to check and confirmed that all payments including city taxes have been paid earlier via credit card. Thanks Andreas Levi for checking and making our stay better. Bed Not sure why some beds have comforters/topper while some beds without. The beds with comforters are so comfy! Our bed without comforters. Breakfast For Europe’s standard, I think the breakfast in this hotel is considered good. With few hot food such as overcooked bacon, overcooked sausage, baked bean, and eggs. The omelette is nice (thanks to the chef!) Some selections of bread, lots of choices of good quality teas. Few selections of juices. Coffee machine. Fresh honey comb. Complementary water It is odd that complimentary water is only provided to the guests for the first night despite I stay 3 nights. This is the first time I experience this in Europe. Perhaps guest should make different booking for each night. Proximity to trains and attractions Close proximity to train stations and some main attractions. Summary Overall service was good (except for 1 rude lady receptionist). I will still recommend this hotel. Take the breakfast."

About Berlin

Berlin is a city where centuries of German and European history intersect with a multicultural present, shaped by large Turkish and Middle Eastern communities in neighborhoods like Neukölln, Kreuzberg, and Wedding. The Brandenburg Gate at Pariser Platz anchors the city as its most iconic landmark, an 18th-century neoclassical monument that now stands for German unity, while the Reichstag's glass dome, designed by Norman Foster, frames panoramic views of the modern capital. Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Mitte district, packs five museums onto a single island in the Spree River, and remnants of the Berlin Wall, from the East Side Gallery's 1.3 km mural stretch to the Wall Memorial at Bernauer Strasse, trace the city's divided past through art and preserved border fortifications.

When to Book Berlin Hotels

  • Hotel rates in Berlin vary significantly by season: prices climb during major events, trade fairs, and peak travel periods, so checking the city's event calendar before you book is worth the effort.
  • Compare rates across different travel dates for Berlin hotels, since nightly prices shift with demand and you'll often find a notably cheaper window a few days either side.
  • Book Berlin hotels well in advance for busy periods like summer and the Christmas market season; last-minute deals can work for flexible-travel dates in quieter months.
  • Prioritize well-rated Berlin hotels that deliver solid value for money rather than simply grabbing the lowest price, especially in neighborhoods like Mitte or Tiergarten where quality varies block by block.
  • Check for free cancellation or breakfast-included rates on Berlin stays: both can save you meaningful cash once you factor in the cost of eating out every morning.
  • Major Berlin events fill hotels fast: the Berlin Marathon (September), Berlinale Film Festival (February), and Festival of Lights (October) all drive heavy demand, so lock in rooms early if your trip overlaps with any of them.

Berlin Travel Essentials

Transport

  • Berlin's U-Bahn and S-Bahn networks efficiently connect the city across its districts; free transit apps help visitors navigate the system without guesswork.
  • Restaurants and food options cluster near S-Bahn stations such as Bundesplatz along major transit routes, making it easy to grab a meal between sights.
  • Bringing your own food onto German trains is cheaper and simpler than buying onboard, a useful tip for day trips out of Berlin.

Food

  • Currywurst and doner kebab are Berlin's most iconic street foods, reflecting the city's blend of German tradition and decades of Turkish culinary influence.
  • Berlin's food scene mixes traditional German breads and pastries with diverse, immigrant-influenced cuisines that vary noticeably from one neighborhood to the next.
  • The Friedrichshain district offers guided food tours lasting about 3.5 hours, led by local guides familiar with East Berlin's restaurant scene.

Entry Requirements

  • US citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business stays under 90 days in Germany (Schengen area). EU nationals can enter visa-free; other non-EU nationals may need a Schengen visa depending on their country of origin.
  • A Schengen visa covers stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period; your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure date from the Schengen Area.
  • Germany's currency is the Euro (EUR, €).

Weather

  • Peak tourist season in Berlin runs June through August, with the warmest summer weather and hotel prices rising 20-35% above off-peak norms.
  • The Christmas market period in December brings a second wave of high demand; book early if you plan to visit the markets around Gendarmenmarkt or Alexanderplatz.
  • Off-peak months (January, February, November) see colder weather but hotel prices drop 25-40%, making this the best window for a more affordable Berlin trip.

※ Prices and policies vary by season and are subject to change. Confirm with official sources before booking.
