I am an honest person when it comes to giving reviews. People need to know what they will expect when they decide to book or going to stay at this motel. I booked through Hotels.com We traveled over 2 hours to get to this place, as we had a concert to attend to at Montage Mountain. The photos in the site that was showed look decent. I was shocked when my husband and I arrived for a concert we was attending to. The outside look very sketchy, like look over your shoulder sketchy with hardly any inadequate outside lighting. The check in was just an empty lobby with a window and a stand with a Keurig and water to pour a cup of coffee with no one available at the desk. You have to ring a bell just to get someones attention. When we entered our rooms, the window was open and had a very musty smell. I turned on the A/C to try to circulate air; instead the A/C didn't work properly, dated bedding, hard bed, and the bathroom was a joke. How can someone confuse the difference between hot and cold in the shower? Complete opposite. No toiletries for guest to use such as shampoo/conditioner, the toilet doesn't properly flush and no free breakfast and no free wi-fi like they have. It was locked. However, the room was clean. It is decent for a night stay but I wouldn't stay longer than that. Stay at a Microtel, Choice Hotel or an Air BnB for much longer. I doubt we will stay at this place again. To me, it looks like a "No tell motel"

ok, let's start with the most important parts: the hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable, the shower had hot water, the rooms were quiet. Yes, I'd stay here again, yes, I'd recommend it. now, let's talk about this hotel. The Holiday Inn Scranton East is super conveniently located literally inside the cloverleaf of a highway exit. It's right near where 84 and 81 meet in Scranton PA so it's not far from scranton things. It's exceptionally easy to get to from the highway. Of course, you can see the highway from the hotel as well. So we arrived at the hotel and the lobby was the first thing we saw. off to the right is a restaurant which was doing a karaoke thing, so it was super loud. The desk is in this large room, and the hotel rooms are literally right there on the left of you. There's a table with a computer on it, which I think is the computer center. At any rate, the people at the front desk are super helpful, gave us local restaurant menus and the like, answered all of our questions - were really great. We got our room key and made our way up to our room. Here's where things get weird. So we are inside the hotel, walking down this hallway that's closed off on our right, and has windows on the left. big floor to ceiling windows -- with the hotel rooms inside. We found our room and quickly realized the hotel room itself has no windows, except for the ones on the hallway. It's like being in an inside stateroom. or a cave. Or like a cheap motel that has the entrances to the rooms outside, not inside a building. Maybe this was a smaller motel that was enclosed? I really have no idea. but it was weird. Since the room was set up that way, the only light switch was right next to the door. like, right next to it. It actually took us a few moments to find it at all. The room had huge curtains on the windows (which again, look out into the hallway, so absolutely no natural light in the room whatsoever), a very comfortable bed, small fridge, a weird chaise lounge, and a bathroom. There was a TV which worked well, and a couple of lights, including one on the night stand that was like a booklight, but there was no way to turn it on without the big lights in the room being on at the same time. really - this was weird! Another weird thing. The bathroom door - it was a sliding door, like a barn door, and it had windows (frosted glass). It didn't close completely. the shower and toilet weren't directly behind that door - they were around the corner, but it still felt weird, like you were changing in the middle of a room. again, weird. After we got to the room I realized that the pillows were feather, and the reservation said that the bed would have a feather duvet. I'm allergic to feathers, and I had called to make sure that was noted on my reservation. When I called, I called the number for the hotel directly, but I do not think I spoke to someone at the hotel - I think I was passed to a call center. At

The hotel was right in the middle of lobby renovations on the night I stayed (3/15). There is a sign to pardon their appearance, which is great. Appearance pardoned, that's fine. But maybe the staff needs to "pardon the renovations", too. The front desk clerk who checked me in was pleasant. There was a manager nearby who was anything but. Their attitudes may make one think that their roles should be swapped, but I am thinking that the strain of the ongoing renovations right in the lobby is affecting the morale at the front desk. On two occasions during my check in, the manager chimed in during my interaction with the clerk towards my responses to the clerks questions or comments. The one that stood out was a snappy response to my reaction when told that the hotel authorizes $100 extra for incidentals. I simply state that it seems high for a $55 room night, but was not complaining about it. The manager replies, "Well its $250 if you smoke in my hotel!" Calm down, there. She tells me the authorization is removed the next morning, in which I correct her in saying that, being a Friday, it will be about 3-4 days before its lifted from my card. She nods and agrees that I know it works. Yes, I do, that's why I initially remarked that $100 is steep for a $55 room night. And by the way, I am one of the most adamant non smokers out there, so ease up in mentioning the smoking charge to anyone when it is unprovoked. I honestly wish it would have just been the desk clerk checking me in without the manager over her shoulder. My impression is that the daily stress of the renovations near the desk area is getting to the desk staff, or was on the night of my stay. There was nothing wrong with the room, and because of this, its gets the three stars instead of fewer. The internet worked great, and it was very convenient to have Price Chopper right next door. So, we go to breakfast. I'm there just it opens on Saturday morning, so it is just me and the breakfast attendant. I walk by the attendant, and am not even greeted as she watches TV. She walks by me to stock something as I get food, and does not greet me again, or make any kind of friendly comment. Still no one else there when done, I walk by her watching TV again and she says nothing to me again. It's a good hotel. Staff needs to remember its a hotel. The hospitality bug was seriously lacking here. Is it usually better, and can we blame this on the renovations affecting morale? Who knows, but that is the impression I get. I pardoned the renovations. Staff, please do the same. I'll give the hotel another chance in the future to see if this is par for the course for them or just a bad day/time for them.
