This rental is misrepresented. It's not a hotel but a ground-floor apartment with a security guard who checks you in. The entire vibe is suspicious from the start.
The room and bathroom are claustrophobically small, and there are zero amenities like a restaurant or lobby.
The only positive was the stunning view from the window, which was exactly as promised.
However, the staff were utterly unprofessional and hostile.

We visited as a family of 7, including 2 kids. Chandana, the host, was very accommodating to our needs and went out of his way to make our stay pleasant. The place had a backpacker retreat type setting with Boho themes. The place is clean and well kept but appears to be a bit old, so expect the usual quirks of older homes. Parking is available for small cars only. Larger vehicles would need to park at the top of the cul-de-sac by the arterial lane. Overall, it was a positive experience.

It’s a home stay hotel. Wonderful service, The owner is ready to do whatever he can to help. Tropical trees surround the house and you’ll be waken up with the singing of the birds in the morning. Very tasty breakfast, both local flavor and western.

The rooms are clean and well presented, the garden is beautiful and there is tea & coffee available 24hr. Breakfast is a buffet style with freshly made eggs of your choice, sausages toast and a choice of fruits.
My only complaint was the noise. The hotel was fully booked and this meant that it was quite noisy late at night and very early in the morning, especially being in a room near the kitchen. The sound echoed terribly.
The manager was very kind and professional, helping me change to a quieter room, when one became available.

Overall pleasant stay at Cinnamon that I'd totally recommend to anyone and stay again myself. A comfortable bed, nicely sized room, beautiful property, convenient location, such friendly staff and a wonderful breakfast are just some basic memorable facts about our stay for 3 nights. The bakery downstairs, Plates restaurant, and the mall next door just add on to the comfort of the stay at Cinnamon Grand. To top it all off, we upgraded our stay to the executive floor, and accessed the lounge to enjoy a variety of mouth-watering snacks (that changed everyday) and took 2 free laundry/day offering. I had a fantastic stay at the Marino Beach Colombo Hotel, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Colombo. The energy of the hotel matches the city in the best way—there’s a lively, enjoyable atmosphere that makes the whole experience feel fun and memorable.
One highlight for me was the great view from the hotel. It really adds to the overall vibe and makes it feel special, even when you’re just stepping out to take a moment.
I’d highly recommend booking a room with a balcony. As a mature solo traveller, that private outdoor space made a big difference—especially in a city that can be hot and busy. Even when the day is energetic, the balcony offers that easy, tranquil respite you need to recharge.
And the rooftop infinity pool? Absolutely wonderful—great views, a fantastic atmosphere, and a calm break from the city buzz.
I also need to make special mention to Upendra. The entire reception/concierge service was brilliant, but Upendra’s attention to detail truly stood out. He supported me with my eSIM and helped with my transport needs, and I genuinely felt valued and cared for—like I was a beloved auntie. It’s exactly what I appreciate from young, enthusiastic staff.
Finally, I have to mention the beach club. It was a great experience—and thanks to the life guard, I even got to enjoy a “tethered” swim in the sea. (And yes—at almost 6 feet tall, tethering this Viking shield Maiden really isn’t as fun as it sounds 😄😂)

We had a wonderful stay at Cinnamon Lakeside. The hospitality was outstanding from the moment we arrived, with the staff being warm, professional, and always ready to help. They made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay.

Kingsbury hotel is in a prime location closer to the beach activities. Some rooms are with sea view. Shopping mall is nearby that offers variety of shops and services.
Restaurants provide wide selection of food options with local and international cuisines.
The rooms are carpeted which emits old odour. The room furniture needs modernising.
We experienced issues with booking. They couldn’t find our booking and gave us a room in a lower floor and the furnitures were old with smelly carpet. On my complaint, we were upgraded to a suite room in a higher floor which was classy and the view was excellent. Don’t know I can afford to stay in a suite.
The staffs were helpful. I didn’t have a chance to use all amenities but I noticed there were many options.

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. It really depends on the room you get. I was initially put in a room that, as I later found out, desperately needed renovations. The air conditioning started leaking during the night, with water dripping right onto the bed. Everything in the room looked old, and the AC unit itself was ancient. The next morning, I was moved to a completely different room. The air conditioning and TV were all new, and the room was much cleaner and more modern overall. Why couldn't they have just put me in a room like that to begin with? They just had to give me a worse one first. I demanded compensation in the form of breakfast for the inconvenience, and they very reluctantly provided it in the end. This is by far one of my most treasured hotels in the world. I’m now approaching 150 check-ins and no I don’t live in Sri Lanka!
The Galle Face Hotel is perhaps “old and tired” in places, buts its service and care for its patrons is in my opinion beyond reproach.
I’d recommend anybody to stay here. Mr Feroz who man who runs the “In on the Green”, the hotel pub, cares about his staff and his customers, with an unobtrusive approach that reflects across the hotel.
Mr Gerard Paul, Asst Manager Front Desk is another manager that cares about customer experience.
The Head Consierge is simply amazing to all guests.
Put this against bell boys, cleaners, wit staff in bars and restaurants this hotel has it all.
Yes as I said it’s getting old but it epitomizes charm, and has capitalized on colonialism, to its advantage providing great employment to its local staff.FromRUB 6,105

I recently stayed at the Ramada by Wyndham Colombo, and overall it was a wonderful experience.
The room was extremely spacious, honestly one of the largest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in within Colombo. Everything was very clean and well maintained, and the amenities were excellent. The room included everything you might need—tea and coffee facilities, toiletries, toothbrushes, and more. The bed was very large and comfortable, and the TV, office table was huge as well. All the facilities such as the lights, air conditioning, and fan worked perfectly, so we had no issues at all.
Our room was on the 8th floor (top floor) and we had a nice view overlooking the Galle Face Hotel with a small view of the ocean. The location of the hotel is also excellent since it is very close to Galle Face Green and many other attractions in Colombo, which makes it very convenient for travelers.
The check-in process was smooth, and they welcomed us with a refreshing welcome drink. One thing to note is that the security procedure is quite strict. When we had guests visiting our room briefly, they had to provide their IDs and go through a security check. It was the first time I experienced this in a hotel, but it is understandable since it helps maintain safety.
Although we booked bed and breakfast, we later asked if we could add the dinner buffet, but unfortunately it was already full. However, something very kind happened later that night. My mother wanted chicken congee, so we asked the room service staff if it was available. Even though it was not on the menu at that moment, they were kind enough to prepare and send us a bowl of chicken congee. It was a very thoughtful gesture, and we truly appreciated their kindness.
The breakfast buffet was excellent with a very wide variety of food, and everything we tried was delicious. My family has always liked the buffets at Ramada, and this time was no different. They also had live cooking stations, and the staff there were very friendly and welcoming.
Overall, everything about the stay was great. The room, service, location, and food were all excellent.
I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel. It is absolutely worth the price and offers great value for money.FromRUB 5,321

The grand oriental hotel did not live up to its name. Sure, this would have been grand in the 18 or 1900’s, but its glory days are way past that - this hotel badly needs a major renovation and updated interior design.
There are many things and items in this hotel that must never be reused again - they must be thrown away, never to see daylight again! Examples of such are: the ultra worn out sofa that have seen better bums, the discoloured sheets, the wooden furnishings chipping off.
Jose rizal might have stayed here fashionably in the past, but the current interiors indeed look like they stayed the same from the 1800s.
Alas, there is also an insect problem or infestation that the management needs to take care of. Cleanliness was an issue.

Shangri-La's quality truly lives up to its reputation. The location, service, and room amenities are all top-notch. I felt that the staff's professionalism was significantly higher than in other hotels. However, the security checks when entering and exiting the hotel were quite strict, which was a bit inconvenient, likely due to a government building being right next door. The hotel's direct connection to the mall is a fantastic feature; you can walk straight from the lobby into the shopping center, which is great for shopping even on a hot day. The mall also offers a wide variety of restaurants with different cuisines. There's a large city under construction directly across from my room, which will probably take a year or two to complete, and this does impact the quality of the sea view. Still, I caught a beautiful sunset from my room on the day I checked in. Finally, I have to mention Shang Palace – it was quite disappointing. The dishes I ordered were all very average. I had held onto some hope after seeing mixed reviews, but it didn't meet expectations. If you have high standards for Chinese food, I wouldn't recommend trying it.
