This is an amazing hotel. You can take a bus from Kinugawa Station to get there. Both the food and the hot springs are worth a visit. The decorations in the hotel are not imitations made for tourists, but modern antiques. I would go to this hotel again for vacation.

It was cheap so I didn't have high expectations, but it was better than I imagined!! The atmosphere inside the hotel is nice and the food, while not luxurious, is good enough for fans of Japanese food. I'd like to come back and stay again during the autumn foliage season.

During the recent three-day autumn foliage season, rooms in Nikko were extremely difficult to book, especially balcony rooms with views of Nantaiyama and Chuzenji Lake. This time, I checked in at noon and requested an upgrade to a lake view room, and luckily, one became available on the 5th floor, the top floor. The balcony of the room offered a breathtaking lake view! Although the price was high, it was truly amazing!
Environment: Prime location near Chuzenji Lake, with its own dedicated station. The pier, lakeside, and Kegon Falls are all within walking distance.
Service: Top-notch. From check-in to introductions, turndown service, and breakfast the next day, the staff were impeccably at home! They now offer twice-daily shuttle service from Nikko Station. Truly fantastic!
Facilities: Complete with all amenities, including a private onsen (hot spring), and state-of-the-art bathing and skincare facilities.
Cleanliness: Spotless, and the public areas are impeccably beautiful.
Staying here is like living inside an oil painting, except for the price. But this is just one example! The purpose of making money is to achieve Ritz-Carlton freedom.FromSEK 8,687

Beautiful old hotel. The dinner was fabulous- so elegant and wonderfully delicious. The grounds are picturesque Best thing is the location. It is up a steep hill so walking up and down is a challenge for older knees. That being said once down the hill, it is a short walk to the famous Shinkyo Bridge and across the street from the bridge is the Toshogu Shrine complex.FromSEK 922

This hotel is expensive, but the service is disappointing. First, no one helped me carry my luggage to my room.
Second, during the buffet dinner, they kept running out of melons, and in the last ten minutes, they were completely out of melons. They told me to wait five more minutes, saying they would come back one last time. But there was nothing. I feel that for a buffet, to simply stop serving food in the last ten minutes is a very bad form of fraud. Except for the excellent location (nearest to Tobu-Nikko Station and the buses stops to various locations and places of interest, the hotel is badly in need of upgrades for it's rooms, facilities and amenities.
The room I stayed in is big (compared to most hotel rooms in Japan) but the toilet seat cover keeps falling down while using it.
Plenty of cobwebs at corners , especially along the corridor.
The bathroom taps is like a 'makeshift' upgrade shared by basin and bathtub. See photo.
Good thing is that I can see upgrading and renovation taking place but seems like it has been going on for a very long time already.FromSEK 159

4.5 stars! Property is older but extremely well maintained. The corner western/Japanese rooms are spacious with two western beds and tatami area, single japanese bath and shower area and separate toilet area, mini fridge, tv, sitting area overlooking the river and table with four chairs as well as a massage chair! Onsen area has both indoor and outdoor areas separate for men and women and a cold plunge as well as multiple hot baths. Minus half a star for low staffing in the store/cafe areas (often no staff member to be found when kakigori desired), no in house lunch option and overly fatty meat on the 3rd night dinner (breakfast and dinner were LARGE and BEAUTIFUL but perhaps heavy on the yuba. Also, shuttle to the train station is only at 10 and 11am and getting cabs is difficult. However, would overwhelmingly recommend Nikko Senhime Monogatari!FromSEK 1,587

The accommodation has a great location, not far from Tobu Nikko Station, just a 3-5 minute walk.
You can store your luggage for free both before and after your stay by informing the staff; there are lockers available.
The bedroom is small and compact but comfortable to sleep in.
The blanket is pilling and showing its age; it would be great if it were replaced.
Simple breakfast is provided for free.

The hotel is located on top of the hill, is not very convenient to get there. The shuttle bus from Nikko station is fully booked even we tried to book 1 day in advance as recommended on their website which only written in Japanese. There is no shuttle provided to pick up from the hotel bus stop. With luggage it’s definitely more than 7min up hill walk. The room we book comes with an open air bath, but was informed that the open air bath in room cannot be use during winter due to frozen pipe condition. I stayed in a twin room on the third floor, and there's an elevator. The room has a toilet (no shower), and the shower rooms are next door, with two on each floor. There's also a washing machine. On the first floor, there's a public bath, which is quite small and only fits two people. Breakfast is 700 yen per person and is filling. Right across from the inn entrance is a Family Mart, which is very convenient. There's no luggage storage, only lockers by the entrance for 100 yen per use. A 24-inch suitcase fits easily, and 25-26 inches should be fine too; for 28 inches, you might want to double-check. I managed to fit my 24-inch suitcase plus 2 liters of water. It's a 3-minute walk from Tobu Nikko Station, or 5 minutes if you walk slowly.FromSEK 260

Location: Fantastic! Both train stations and the bus terminal are within sight, making transportation incredibly convenient. There's a large supermarket about 600-700 meters away, which is great for groceries.
Room: The triple room isn't small, and the beds are comfortably firm. The heating in the room was a bit strong, and a humidifier would have been nice.
Amenities: You can pick up various toiletries at the front desk. On the first floor, there's a self-service coffee and tea bar, which is lovely for relaxing with a drink and enjoying the view after a day out. The hot spring has both indoor and outdoor pools, but there are only five showers. If you go during off-peak hours, it's not crowded. The large public bath only has a hairdryer, no lotions or anything else.
Breakfast: The menu changes daily. While not super extensive, the overall quality is excellent. The Japanese curry rice is delicious, and the bread is also good.FromSEK 584

This small, beautiful hotel is tastefully decorated with Japanese art and objects. We chose Western-style beds. The room was spacious and airy. Sandals are provided for walking in the hallways; no shoes or sandals on the room’s traditional mats.
Breakfast and dinner are high cuisine, artfully presented in private dining rooms. The set dinner menu is 7 courses and way too much food, even with small individual portions of each serving (similar to a tasting menu, but highly traditional Japanese). The sashimi was the freshest I have ever eaten. The chef accommodated our dietary restriction of no meat. Shuttle vans can be arranged for pick up and drop off at train stations and local shrines. First of all, let me praise the hotel's service. It is simply a model. You can experience 100% care, 100% seriousness, and 100% diligence. In addition to meeting the various requirements of guests, a tip is that when you arrive at Kinugawa Onsen Station, you don’t need to take a ride. Let the hotel know in advance and the hotel will send a car to pick you up at the station. Of course, it will also be delivered to the station. In fact, the station is not far from the hotel, only a few hundred meters, and it is quite fast to walk there.
The restaurant's food quality is good, whether for breakfast or dinner, it is worthy of praise. Sometimes the restaurant is full of customers and the three waitresses keep running around. It’s so hard.
