Originally the Loramoor Estate, the once owner, James R. Moore used the main house as his personal getaway from Chicago. An avid horseman, he converted one of the outbuildings to stables with apartments on the upper level to house his horse caretakers and built other structures on the property including servants quarters, greenhouses, and an ice house. At one point, there were 140 men employed at the property! Sadly, the main house met its end in the 1980s, and many of the buildings have been converted to personal homes. The stables have since been restored to be the beautiful Hayloft Lodge we know today. Although some aspects have changed, much of the historical charm lives on!
