Went to this hotel for family wedding, after reading other reviews I was not looking forward to my stay. I found the staff were friendly. The room we stayed in was clean the bed was comfy. I never heard any noise at night. The breakfast had plenty of choice. The problem we had while staying there the broken toilet seat that was not repaired. My son had booked a family room arrived with his three children at 11.30pm and found the room had one double bed and a single bed the only solution they were given was to squash two z beds into the small room because there were no other rooms,

Staff were a little grumpy and room was a little old; carpet could have done with replacing. My room backed onto behind the building where apparently staff hung out or smoked, I heard a lot of loud conversations that I probably shouldn’t! Beds were comfy and they were fine with me bringing my cat, which was the main reason I chose it. Not terrible, not wonderful, did the job.

Came for afternoon tea for my daughters hen party, it was organised by her friends. The setting was lovely with a harpist playing. Unfortunately after the sandwiches arrived my daughter suffered an allergic reaction which resulted in her needing to spend most of the afternoon in the toilet being sick. She suffers from an egg allergy which was made clear when the booking was made. We were very clear that she couldn’t have any egg and queried some of the sandwich fillings. Once in contact with egg she reacts extremely quickly. She was not treated with any real care and one of her friends had to pay for antihistamines from reception! As this was her hen the occasion was completely ruined for her and everyone else yet when the bill arrived full payment was expected. I did not think this was acceptable and asked for the cost of her tea to be removed and was initially told that this was not possible. After speaking to the manager it was eventually removed. The afternoon was not as expected and I do not feel that the staff showed any real care or compassion. I will not be recommending or visiting again. Extremely expensive ruined occasion.

We stopped in here just for drinks and sat outside on the sunshine opposite the pond. The service at the bar was prompt, friendly and efficient. We spent about two hours just relaxing on the comfy seats looking at the wildlife and just chatting. We had a look at the amazing full-size metal horses which are pulling an open topped metal wagon which has numerous sacks stacked on the back. Anyway, it is really brilliant here and the whole location is mesmerising. Certainly, worth a visit. We have actually stayed here in the past and our memories of those visits were excellent. Plenty of hotel parking for guests behind the spa area.

Lovely Hotel, clean and well run. All the staff were very helpful , all looked happy with whatever they were doing. The room was very clean and modern, very happy with this. The only thing I would mention as a negative is there is no lift (we were on the top floor, my husband has a bad hip so found it hard to climb stairs, we could have asked for a different room but as it was only 2 nights we did not bother) . If stairs are a problem ask which room you are in. The food in the restaurant was 5 star. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel. Service and staff excellent. Although hotel is in a commercial area, it is right next to Winnash Triangle station ( 5 min walk) where for £4 off peak return ticket, you can travel the 6 minute journey into Reading. The station is in the centre of Reading high street. Highly recommend Spa and treatments. Great stay.

I took my wife away here for 1 night. We had a package deal that included a Spa treatment, evening meal and bridal suite. A clean and good looking historic hotel. Spa area is small and had noisy Russian kids (very annoying, when trying to relax) in the pool, and parents that seemed to have little cares or control of those kids. Steam room door would not close right. Steam room and sauna are 4-6 people capacity maximum. We spent about 30 minutes in the spa on our first day of arrival, but didn’t bother spending any time on it the following day, as it wasn’t good enough and we felt indifferent about it. Our spa treatments: these were very nice, but very short at 30 minutes apiece. You really need an hour to completely relax. Relaxation room afterwards was very nice, tranquil and peaceful and provided light refreshments. I think I fell asleep here for about an hour, which was well needed. Room: the bridal suite was nice, historic, and bathroom was nice. Disappointingly, no toiletries, work avoided. And when we asked hotel reception to bring some up, they took 10 to 20 minutes. And gave us one shampoo, and one shower gel. No conditioner for my wife’s hair. Not sure if this was intentional, trying to save money or not? Evening meal: food was good, nothing super special, but adequate for what they classify as a four star hotel. Would I go again? Answer is no. It wasn’t special enough.

So.....after reading some of the reviews on here they would have you believe this is just a step up from Pontins. I was absolutely prepared for anything when we set off and even had a slight sinking feeling. I'd originally booked for one night with breakfast included because we had to come to the area for separate reason. I'd then decided to book an extra night and booked that night extremely last minute. I rang the hotel, giving them less than 24hrs, to see if it was possible. The guy that answered was extremely helpful and explained it wouldn't be a problem to pay for the extra night and on check-in it would be tagged as one booking. On arrival the receptionist couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and we checked in with absolutely no issue at all. The room was lovely, very well kept, extremely clean and I honestly couldn't find ANYTHING to complain about. Because that evening was very last minute we hadn't made any dinner plans so popped to the hotel restaurant for food. We were greeted by the ”infamous” Muhammad and his team and were seated straight away. Both my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals and again absolutely couldn't fault the food, the decor or the service, everything and everyone was beyond spot on. The following day we popped and used the pool facilities and again, changing rooms were clean and staff were extremely polite and helpful. My ONLY criticism (this is just MY personal preference) the temperature of the pool could have been notched up a couple of degrees, it was a wee bit chilly. We went out to a local restaurant that evening and on returning we decided to grab a coffee from the bar to take to our room. Again we were served by Muhammad who was as polite and helpful as usual and remembered us from the previous evening which was lovely. We had booked breakfast for our last morning and again with previous reviews in the back of my mind I was a bit dubious. I'll say this, if you cant find anything to feed yourself or your children at breakfast then there's something wrong with you and not the hotel. You name it and it was there, fresh fruit, pastries, cooked food, cereal, yogurt, choice of breads including bagels, choice of 4 juices...... The hot food was fresh and didn't taste like it was suffering from heat exhaustion from being sat there for hours. Again the staff were very friendly, especially the young lad who seated us (I THINK his name was Ellis, im really sorry if I've got that wrong). Checkout was fast and again we were greeted with a friendly face. We had a lovely couples weekend (doesn't happen often with an 8 year old) and that's entirely down to the hard work ALL the staff put in, not once did we feel awkward or too much trouble. We liked it so much we're planning a second stay in August for 2 nights and bringing our son for his birthday to Lego land. I'm not sure where the other reviewers stayed but it certainly wasn't the hotel we've just left and I'm sure our stay wasn't some sort
