The garden is split into three parts, and the middle section absolutely stole my heart. It's kept its original Ming Dynasty style, and the way they've designed everything around the water is just beautiful. I spent hours watching the reflections of ancient pavilions in the ponds and crossing these perfectly placed bridges. Every corner feels like a new discovery - they really thought about every single view when they built this place.
What I love most is how peaceful it feels, even with other visitors around. The buildings seem to float on the water, and there are these quiet spots where you can just sit and take it all in. I found this amazing little pavilion overlooking a lotus pond where I could have stayed all day. Bring your camera - you literally can't take a bad photo here!
Quick Tip: They close at 5:30 PM March through mid-November, and 5:00 PM in winter. Morning visits are best - the light's gorgeous and it's way less crowded!

As the famous Song Dynasty poet Su Shi once said, "It's a lifelong pity if you visit Suzhou but miss Tiger Hill" - and after spending the day here, I couldn't agree more!
Tiger Hill
Recommended Length of Stay: 3-4 Hours
Location: No. 8 Shanmen, Gusu District, Suzhou City
Don't let the "hill" part fool you - while it's not exactly Mount Everest, this little gem packs so much history and beauty into one spot. Sure, it's not huge - just a small hill really - but the history here is incredible. The coolest part is the leaning pagoda at the top! It's been tilting for 400 years (way before Pisa was famous).
Back in 496 BC, they buried King He Lu here, and supposedly a white tiger showed up to guard his tomb - hence the name! There's also this mysterious Sword Pool where they say all the king's precious swords are hidden. I loved wandering through the Verdant Mountain Villa - it's this gorgeous garden that's actually pretty unique for Suzhou because it doesn't have any ponds. And if you're into tiny trees (who isn't?), the bonsai collection at Wanjing Villa is seriously impressive.

Trip.com User: Tiger Hill is probably one of the few historical places in China which have been preserved by almost all dynasties. Avoid public holidays to visit. Multiple food options available on site. Transportation to site is convenient. City view is pretty good. Have a walk around the scenic spot and enjoy boat ride while appreciating its rich history.

Recommended Length of Stay: 1-2 Hours

The Lingering Garden, along with the Humble Administrator’s Garden in Suzhou, the Summer Palace in Beijing, and the Chengde Imperial Summer Resort in Hebei, are collectively known as China's Four Great Gardens.
The Lingering Garden is split into four distinct areas, each with its own personality. The central part has these amazing Ming Dynasty buildings and the clearest jade-green pond. East section is all about the residential buildings (loved the "Pellucid Tower"!), while the west area has this stunning collection of rock formations - some of the coolest I've seen in Suzhou. The north section feels like a mini forest with bamboo groves everywhere. My favorite spot was the "Through-the-Clouds Tower" - three stories of traditional architecture with the best views of the garden.
What makes this place special is how everything flows together. The buildings, waters, and rockeries are perfectly placed to create new views at every turn. Don't miss the Celestial Hall of Five Peaks or the Small Flying Rainbow Bridge - both are architectural masterpieces from the Ming Dynasty.

Trip.com User: Suzhou Liuyuan is one of the four famous gardens in China. I went in late autumn in early December. The white wall and high tile garden buildings in the park, the large red leaves around the Laoting, the fish watching by the windy pool, the bamboo forest in another village, and the bonsai garden in front of the small Taowu, all make visitors linger. Leave the garden and spend at least one whole day savouring it.
Day 2 | Afternoon
Having the chance to enjoy the charming Lingering Garden, Tongli Ancient Town next to it is another great place that you will never want to miss!
Tongli Ancient Town

The attractions and be toured in one or two days. The town is 18 kilometers from Suzhou and 80 kilometers from Shanghai.

Felicia travels: Easily accessible from Hangzhou! Or other nearby cities. From Suzhou’s south railway station, expect to pay ~ 80 rmb didi. It was a little bit touristy during the weekday, so I can’t imagine during the weekend. You need to show your health code, travel code and passport + 100rmb fee, but it’s totally worth it. The scenery is beautiful and looks also great during sunset. Wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking a lot
