I went to Äkäslompolo to run the Nuts Ylläs Pallas 37km and chose the hotel for its proximity to the starting line. The hotel needs some renovation, but despite the bad reviews it was overall better than I expected. Staff was super helpful and friendly, the bed was extremely comfortable (a must before and after a race), the private sauna was amazing and cherry on top, breakfast was absolutely delicious and with a wide range of choice!

Family room; lots of selection at buffet breakfast and dinner. Gift shop, bar, lobby. Ski Bus comes right to door. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to supermarket. Sauna in each room. A Great place to stay if you're skiing at Yllas North or South.

I'd heard such a mixer of reviews about this hotel which made me worried about what I'd arrive to. But it's such a lovely, cosy hotel. It has a small gift shop with souvenirs. The restaurant is large with a large a good selection of food even for fussy eaters. The staff were really helpful and there was a kids club in the evening which my daughter loved. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from restaurants, supermarket and shops and just behind the shops is the frozen lake. The only downside is the stairs in the family rooms, they are very steep and did worry me but as long as the kids are careful it's fine. We are returning to the same hotel again this year because we loved it so much and we can't wait.

A very authentic alpine hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were basic in decor due to the snow sticking to boots, I presume, but very warm and cozy especially in contrast to the temperatures outside in December. The dining room served a wide selection of dishes, buffet style, three times a day. All food was very fresh and there was a kettle on constant boil and T bags etc to make hot drinks. I would recommend this hotel for family holidays

Still at the Snow Princess on a 4 night stay. Surprisingly decent. Yes rooms are dated, stairs very steep. Looking back on previous reviews these points have been mentioned numerous times and mgt have said hope to get a renovation soon, 10 yrs down the line looks like it's still considering it. Saying the it was clean, room for 5 was small, our room was a riot with clothes everywhere. Would b good if there was somewhere you vould hang your snow suits on properly. Shower wasn't the best, luke warm. Downstairs reception area was lovely, rustic and upstairs dining area lovely too, very large room with floor to ceiling with windows and found it very cold to eat in. High ceiling won't help so wrap up when going in there. Food decent I thought, was expect it worse, food was warm, soups lovely. Food was fine abit repetitive but warm wholesome so you left full. Kids choice poor though, chips n nuggets. Sledging outside the hotel isn't great, get yourself on the ski bus timetable at reception get yourself to the northside of the fell, sledging is fab and next to the is the ski slopes. Outside the hotel turn left walk down t junction turn left then you'll see the small shopping centre, large reindeer then further another shopping mall go outside there you can find the lake along with the swing. Ensure you stay inside the poles on the lake to walk safely. So tiring with all the gear on but worth it, so it's a heavy day. Don't over pack we ended up wearing most of our clothes most days as there clean. Brought 2 cases what a waste as only changing undies etc.

Ok so after reading the reviews I was a bit concerned about the hotel. However, I did not need to worry. When we got to the hotel it was welcoming and warm and the staff on reception were so friendly and helpful, nothing was ever to much bother. Yes the rooms are a little bit dated but they were clean and the beds were comfortable and the food was great as they catered for coeliac and it was made clear on the menu for each day what was gluten free. I would definitely go back this hotel

A very nice hotel. We had a great time at Hotel Yllaskaltio. Whilst the rooms are not that modern and a little dated they were very clean throughout and our room had very large windows with an excellent view of the Northern lights. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was all very efficient and tasty. Our only complaint was the complimentary drinks voucher we received upon check in, we only used the bar in order to redeem it but were told after our drinks were poured that it wasn't valid against alcoholic drinks, there was no mention of this on the terms and conditions on the voucher. A bit annoying but apart from that would love to stay here again in the future.

First and foremost, this is a positive review and in no way should put you off going as with a few upgrades and choice I’d bring my family back here tomorrow. Please take this as a constructive criticism. We have just arrived home after a four night stay (22nd to 26th Dec 2022) the hotel is a little dated, could do with a complete refurb (imho) as the rooms are very basic but with everything you need (apart from a bath) Lapland is very tiring with all the snow gear on and after a long day my go to is a long hot bath. The stairs to the mezzanine are very steep, not slightly, and if you have children of a certain age who like to still get in with Mum and Dad, these are an accident waiting to happen. Or even if Mum and Dad sleep here instead, if your like me who has a weak bladder, they are a mission to navigate and not wake the kids. Our room was south facing and to have any chance of seeing Northern lights without going out then ask for a North facing room. The food in the hotel was ok. Breakfast (imo) was more catered for continental, there was bacon, mini hot dog sausages and creamy scrambled eggs, me personally, just having that option of requesting any type of egg would be ideal. I’m sure this could be included, especially the prices you pay for Xmas. A couple of fried eggs or poached would t have gone amiss. Like others have said too, the food could be hotter. I also have to point out that parents who let their kids go and help theirselves (I’m all for it) just stay away from the Nutella, the amount of little sneaky fingers having a swoop of the bowl I couldn’t ignore. (Bless ‘em) we’ve all done it lol. The food is ok, I ate well, I just expected more from a holiday that cost a lot of money. Hotel prices I thought were very expensive, 5 euros for a qtr of a cup of hot chocolate with squirts cream and 2 marshmallows. All drinks, snacks and souvenir’s are expensive. Finally, I need to repeat. It’s a great hotel, it could be much better with a few quid spent on it as us customers pay a lot, and I mean a lot to stay here. Please reinvest in the hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We will return…..look out for an update should the changes happen. Good luck Snow Princess and thanks

Tjis hotel's general shape feels like an insult to Lapland and Finland. In serious need of R-E-N-O-V-A-T-I-O-N. Solo traveller € 120/night albeit with breakfast is OTT. Staff though are super friendly and helpful.
