Service: There was a piece of cake in the room, but it was rotten. I called the front desk, but they just took it away and nothing happened. The child wanted to eat the cake and cried for a long time. Environment: The overall environment is OK."

"I recently stayed at Santa Barbara by Santas Hotels and had a wonderful experience. The location in the heart of Altea's Old Town is unbeatable, just steps away from the iconic blue-domed church and lively squares. The hotel itself is stunning—a beautifully restored historic building with modern, clean, and comfortable rooms. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the shower was fantastic. The views from my room's balcony of the sea and town were absolutely breathtaking. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, making check-in and communication seamless. Just a small note for future travelers: since it is located in the historic center, there are steep cobbled streets to walk up, so bring good walking shoes! Don't overpack! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an authentic and luxurious stay in Altea. I will definitely be back!"

"We much enjoyed our stay in this charming boutique hotel which is very well placed for visiting the sights of this lovely old town. Our room - an Urban Independent - was spacious and well maintained. The staff were all friendly and helpful. For us a major plus was the delightful terrace and pool with chairs and sunloungers where we could relax after sightseeing. Happily no competition for these! The hills in Altea are very steep with lots of steps and we were relieved to find that cars can drive right up to the door of La Serena."

"Welcoming owners, superb beachfront location with fantastic views, and the best breakfasts. We had a corner room with a beach view for our 2 night stay and couldn't have been happier. We were b and b and the hotel uses an attached restaurant right on the promenade for guests breakfasts. A great selection of healthy and otherwise food. We both opted for the English and they were super...and huge. Great quality ingredients. As it's an old building with historical character, it doesn't have a lift and the stairs are steep and narrow, so the rooms aren't suitable for anyone with mobility issues. For everyone else, book here...it's fabulous."

"This is about the 4th time we have stayed here. It is beautifully decorated and the owners supply just about everything you could need, and some! In the bathrooms there is shampoo and shower gel, in the kitchen there is coffee, sugar, cereal, jam, butter and milk. The beds are enormous and very comfortable. It is located in the old town with a tapas bar virtually next door."

"Truly lives up to the name, paradise indeed. Tucked away above Altea Old Town, so peaceful and quiet. Feels like being in Thailand, with beautiful gardens, plants, pool and banana trees full of fruit. Honesty bar, very well stocked and plenty of ice. Lovely fresh breakfast with amazing cakes made by Aranza who is a key part of running this small privately run hotel. Walkable, if you are quite fit, into the Old Town or you can drive up the hill and park, then easy flat walk. A beautiful relaxing experience, room was excellent too with efficient air conditioning and comfy bed - we will return."

"We had a most enjoyable stay at this beautiful hotel in Altea and would happily recommend it. The location is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Spacious pool area, plenty of sun beds/parasols with tables and chairs to the other side. A well-stocked bar with reasonably priced drinks and snacks. The hotel sits right beside the beach. Although it's stony, a pair of water shoes made it easier to enjoy a swim in the warm sea. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with an impressive selection of hot and cold dishes to suit every taste. There was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The hotel also offers several attractive communal areas where you can relax in the sunshine or find a peaceful spot in the shade. The entertainment team deserves a special mention. The water aerobics sessions were great fun, and although we didn't have children with us, it was lovely to see how enthusiastic and engaging the children's entertainer was. Our room was small but had lovely views over the pool and the sea. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning coped adequately despite the extreme heat, and the room was equipped with a tea and coffee machine, fridge and safe. The toiletries and towels were also of good quality. The hotel was spotless throughout, and all the staff were friendly and courteous. The communal areas, including the games room, were cool due to good air conditioning. Evening entertainment was enjoyable, although louder than we would have preferred. Getting around was easy. The tram stop is only a five-minute walk out from the front of the hotel, with a reliable service, good value too. The hotel also provides a shuttle bus into town, which was thoughtful and a useful addition for guests. Clearer instructions regarding the return pick-up would have been useful. Whilst there aren't shops immediately nearby, a ten-minute walk takes you to Altea's promenade with numerous restaurants and cafés. From there, it's about ten minutes uphill to the charming old town. Walking in the opposite direction from the hotel leads to a handful of beach bars with a more local, less touristy atmosphere. We would return, probably outside the height of summer as there are plenty of interesting places nearby that we would explore."

"This hostel is located on a very busy road near the station/railway. The standard room is at the back, near the railway. It smelled musty, was quite small, and dark. The host offered us a spacious apartment with a balcony for an additional fee. We did, but the price was disappointing. We sat in the exhaust fumes with a small sea view on the balcony. The decor is uninviting, but it's clean. The reception desk is usually unattended. Poor value for money. We won't be returning and I wouldn't recommend it. Unfortunately."
Hotel Abaco Altea
"Abaco is a boutique hotel, very conveniently located right in the middle of old town and sea front in the beautiful city of Altea. I will write another review for Altea separately. My husband and I had a three day stay at Abaco. Parking garage is available at 18 Euros per day. We didn’t think our car would fit the entrance of the garage so we parked at a parking lot nearby which was safe, free and tons of parking. The room we stayed in was a premier room with a jacuzzi in the bedroom and a separate, very spacious bathroom, equipped with a two person shower with two rain showers and two hand held showers, oversized bath sheet towels, medium towels and hand towels. There was liquid hand soap, hand lotion next to a contemporary, large hand sink, tissues in a cute tissue holder, big basket for towels, and a large shelf to keep toiletries. The shower had shower gel and one combo shampoo and conditioner bottle. The toilet paper holder was very irritating and I wish hotels would pay more attention to that. In USA we’re not used to toilet paper holders that actually don’t hold the paper roll in place and falls down at every attempt to take the paper out and also having to turn 180 degrees to get the paper , but that’s a personal quirk I always have. The room was quite spacious with an oversized safe and plenty of shelves for keeping luggage. The bed was queen sized - not king sized as I would’ve expected. But they do have a family sized room with extra twin beds. I would give them extra ratings for their beautiful personal touch to everything, including taking us to our room to giving us personal attention at breakfast. The breakfast experience is very personalized and we had to make a reservation for the time we would breakfast. I don’t know if they’re short staffed this time of the year (early Feb) or to give us a personal experience. But in any event, we enjoyed the experience. They do have a small buffet layout with croissants, cakes, cereals, nuts and toppings, chia pudding, cut up mixed fruits ready in little bowls, choice of jellies and jams, Nutella, honey, slices of ham, bacon, cucumbers, etc. I would suggest, though, if you don’t mind, putting cucumbers away from meats coz I couldn’t eat them and please add some actual veggies to the menu like mushrooms and green peppers or cut up tomatoes. Cukes were on the same plate as the meats and it didn’t work for me coz I am a vegetarian who eats eggs. They brought a bottle of fresh juice to our table everyday. They bring out tea and coffee on demand, unlike other hotels where you can choose your own from the coffee machine. The also take your order for eggs and toast your choice of bread. Breakfast is from 8:30-10:30 so this may not work for people who want to get started with their day early. The day we were checking out we requested boxed breakfast at 8:00AM coz we had to leave early but instead they agreed to serve us breakfast in the hotel at 8:20 but without cooked eggs.
