I guess we checked into a rip-off hotel. This is, without a doubt, the worst hotel experience I've ever had. We chose this place because it was close to the airport, as we had an early morning flight. I thought, 'It's just one night, and this is Beijing, how bad can it really be?' That was until we got to the hotel.
First, regarding the location, it is indeed close to the airport. If you know the way, you can walk there in about 20 minutes. However, there are many confusing side roads and no crosswalks. At first, we had no idea where to go, and the navigation was inaccurate, making it very hard to find.
Secondly, when we checked in, the front desk told us that only two people could stay in one room. We had five people and had booked two rooms, so we had to get another room offline. When we opened the door to our room, there was a strong smell of smoke and stale sweat. Out of our three rooms, only one was somewhat okay; the other two smelled terrible. We called the front desk to switch rooms, but they said they were fully booked and couldn't switch us. They didn't even offer to do anything about the odor, even though we saw on the platform that they still had rooms available for sale. We were so annoyed at the time, but then we decided to just make do for one night. Inside the room, everything looked dirty. The sink even had a leak. The toilet, walls, and fixtures were all grimy and stained. We absolutely didn't want to stay, so we told the front desk we wanted to cancel the order. But the front desk said we could leave if we didn't want to stay, but the money wouldn't be refunded. We asked, 'Doesn't the platform say we can cancel before 8 PM?' She lit a cigarette and said, 'You've already checked in, so you can't cancel.' But we hadn't touched anything in the room, nor had we messed it up, so why couldn't we get a refund? Plus, they also stated on the platform that free cancellation was available before 8 PM, and their rooms clearly had issues. But dealing with such a scam hotel, being right didn't matter. Their attitude was 'take it or leave it, the money's ours.' Later, Ctrip platform also communicated with the hotel for a long time. Eventually, the hotel sent an uncle over to change our bedsheets and duvet covers. The uncle was quite nice. But changing them didn't help; the duvet and pillow inserts still smelled. Even with new covers, it was the same. So we ended up putting another duvet cover over the original one. We didn't even use the pillows.
Moreover, it was very cold that day. Out of the three rooms, only one had a little bit of warm air from the air conditioner. The other two rooms didn't get warm even when set to 31°C.
My friends and I were complaining in the room, saying we absolutely had to leave a bad review. Later, the young lady from the front desk knocked on our door and brought us water. She said she was sorry for her bad attitude earlier. It was honestly a bit comical; we didn't need water at all. And the water was nearly expired, with only about 20 days left before the expiration date. If any future guests stay here, remember to check the water's expiration date.
I really feel like spending hundreds of yuan to be upset and aggrieved like this is completely unnecessary. I would have been better off just waiting at the airport for my flight. No need to drag luggage around and go through all that trouble. The airport is warmer in autumn and winter, and you don't have to put up with this kind of treatment.
