The Base Berlin ONE

Berlin|0.74km from Cafe Paula
We stayed in this newly opened complex for a week and were very satisfied. The 4 out of 5 stars are because there are a few little things that could either be improved or that you should be aware of beforehand. But all of these points are “complaining on a high level”. But more on that later. The entire complex consists of several parts. In addition to the ”hotel operation”, there are long-term apartments, co-working spaces, a fitness room and a laundry room with washing machines and dryers. We stayed in the hotel rooms. The rooms are large, spacious, modern and, having opened a few months ago, are still completely new. The disadvantage of the rooms is the fact that there is no air conditioning. Since we had temperatures well over 30 degrees over the weekend and the sun hit our room and the black window frames from midday onwards, it was extremely hot until sunset. Only completely closing the windows and darkening them with curtains provided some relief. Of course, this only works if you're out and about during the day and don't use the room, like we did. There was no closet for us. You can certainly cope with this for short stays, but two people for a week completely out of the travel bag is a bit chaotic. In addition, the bathroom was missing a few hooks for hanging up bags, used towels, etc. Room cleaning and bed linen and towel changes only take place every 7 days for environmental reasons, which we very much welcomed. If you would like new towels beforehand, you can order this at reception. There is a small breakfast in the hotel, but we didn't use it. That's why I can't say anything about it. What I missed, however, was the opportunity to have a beer in the evening after returning. There is a drinks machine, but it only sells non-alcoholic drinks. It would be nice to add some beer here too. There is no bar in the evenings. The snack machines were usually 80 percent empty. One would also like the operators to refill more regularly. Unfortunately, the terrace was filled with music from 8 a.m. on weekend mornings. Since our room was above, we had to close the windows, which could have been avoided given the heat. This wasn't the case during the week, as far as we could tell. The hotel is very well connected to public transport on foot through the backyard of the ”Rathaus-Center-Pankow”. In 5 minutes you can reach the tram and bus. In 10-15 minutes on foot to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn. There are also parking spaces on site that can be booked. From our point of view, all of the small points of criticism are ”complaints on a high level” and in no way deny the quality of the accommodation. We felt comfortable and will definitely come back because, in our opinion, the price and performance are just right.

Because the other room type is set the next day, the housekeeping staff is very helpful to change the room, we do not have to run back specially, the nearby traffic and shops are very convenient! Super recommended

Disappointed with my stay this time - this hotel seems to have gone downhill since my last stay in 2019. Arrived in the vening, and upon check-in there seemed to be some issues with the staff, had no idea what it was. The guy told me that today the bar, usually open 24 hr closed at 10 PM. Got to my room and it was more spacious than the room I had in 2019 - extra space is nice. Little later I went down to buy a water and chips from the lobby kiosk, then a guy appeared and told me, in German, it was not possible. The kiosk was also closed. Strange! He did not speak a single word of English, but as I understood, the reception would be unstaffed for the remainder of the night. He said he was the security guy (if I got it correctly). Weird! Later in the evening my room got colder and colder. Only 4-5 degrees celcius in Berlin during the evening/night, and no heating in the room. The radiators were turned on max, but did not heat, so the room got very cold and uncomfortable. The guy in the lobby had no idea of what I was saying. I went to bed and woke up in the very cold room, still no heat. Felt little unwell as well. Very disappointed over this stay since my last stay was pleasant. Usually I enjoy the Moxy brand, with it's lively bars and so on. But this hotel was just cold and dull. Was a true pleasure to check out and walk 20 meters further up the road to the AC Hotel, where the bar is open and the in-room radiators are working. On a positive note - I like the location. Gesundbrunnen shopping centre is just across the street. So is the train station - with direct connections to Berlin Airport (twice an hour). You can easily get around Berlin from this location. There is a REWE futher down the road - open till midnight. Convenient when the lobby kiosk is closed. And the girl who did my check-out was very nice and friendly! Just like it should be at a Moxy :)

The staff were very nice and kind, the location is really good since it's so close to the attractions, the price is alright, the rooms we're unfortunately dusty, dirty, few spider webs here and there and they especially looked sad and depressing. The breakfast was good, but the choice was very little unfortunately. It's an OK place for a short visit of Berlin

The first thing I'll say is that I do not think this hostel is in a very nice area. I arrived very late at night due to delays with my train and I felt very uneasy and unsafe walking from the train station to the hostel. It's fine in the daytime but if you intend on going out a bit in Berlin then might be better to stay a bit closer to the city. The hostel was also not very clean but to be fair they did have signs making us aware that they were short staffed in terms of cleaners at the time. The rooms are very simple and not as nice as they look in the pictures but they're not bad, just perhaps not as advertised in the pictures. I will say however that the bed was very comfortable for a hostel bed and I slept very well there as it was quiet every night. Another thing to be aware of is that you have to get two trams/trains to get to the city which takes about 30 minutes altogether. Aside from the area, the hostel did the job and I would recommend if you're looking for a cheap and cheerful option in Berlin.
Bornholmer Hof im Prenzlauer Berg

We have stayed at this hotel several times over the years. Recently for the first time after the corona crisis. Bornholmer Hof is still a perfect base if you want to explore Berlin. The tram stops almost in front of this cozy, somewhat older hotel and within five minutes you are at the combined S-bahn/U-bahn station Schönhauser Allee. A combined S-bahn and U-bahn only takes a five minute walk. It takes about twenty minutes to travel from the hotel to Alexanderplatz or Hackescher Markt. The staff is still friendly, the breakfast okay and the rooms and bathrooms are very clean. This year, because of our tour group and the extra space, we had two double rooms. Still, the question is whether we will choose this hotel again next year. The beautiful, quiet parking lot is no longer accessible to visitors. Of course we were helped to find a free parking space in the neighborhood (in front of the Embassy of Ghana, between a camper with a wheel clamp and a caravan), but with the disappearance of the parking lot in the courtyard near the hotel, an important plus has also disappeared. Also the free coffee in the small lobby was gone. Sometimes there were still eggs.
