I recently stayed at Ueno Station Hostel Oriental I in Tokyo, and overall it was a very satisfying experience, especially for a solo traveler looking for convenience and value. The biggest advantage of this hostel is definitely its location. It is only about a 3–5 minute walk from Ueno Station, which makes it extremely convenient for getting around Tokyo. With access to JR lines, the Tokyo Metro, and the Keisei Line to Narita Airport, transportation was simple and stress-free. The surrounding area is lively, with plenty of restaurants, convenience stores, and the popular Ameyoko shopping street nearby.

The hostel itself is a capsule-style accommodation for men only. The capsule was compact, as expected in Japan, but clean and well-maintained. Each bed came with its own light, power outlet, and curtain for privacy. While you can occasionally hear other guests moving around, it was generally quiet enough to rest comfortably after a long day of exploring the city. I would recommend bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

One of the highlights of staying here is the public bath. After walking around Tokyo all day, soaking in the hot bath was incredibly relaxing. The bathing area and restrooms were clean and well organized, and basic amenities were provided. There is also a lounge area, lockers for luggage, vending machines, and coin-operated laundry facilities, which make the stay more convenient.

For the price and location, Ueno Station Hostel Oriental I offers excellent value. It may not be luxurious, but it is practical, clean, and perfectly suited for budget-conscious travelers who prioritize accessibility and comfort. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Tokyo.

It was a nice experience staying at Hotel Centurion Ueno. The location is very convenient, with train stations nearby and a convenience store just across the lot. There are also several restaurants in the area, as well as easy access to Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, and the Ameyoko street market. The room is small but can accommodate two average-built persons. Although the hotel was under renovation at the time, overall it was still an awesome stay, and I give it a 👍👍.

Great location as it was about 7min walk to Ikebukuro Station. The reception was at level 3 along with ice machine, coffee/tea machine, washing machine with dryer. There’s a Denny’s at level 2 where we have our breakfast and 7-11 at level 1. 
The famous Ichiran Ramen was just across the road and operate 24hr. 
Overall room was just nice for me and my son as it had everything we need. Able to open up my 28inch luggage (one at a time) as Japan hotel room size is usually small. Not a big issue for me

As a frequent traveler to Japan, I'm quite familiar with Japanese hotels. While the room was small (which is typical for hotels in great locations), it cleverly featured bunk beds, and surprisingly, the beds were quite spacious. It was perfectly fine even with kids! The location is absolutely fantastic. As soon as you step out, there are tons of menus everywhere, and you can walk to anything you want to eat. Ueno itself is a place where you'll never struggle to find food, and personally, I think it's hard to go wrong – everything is delicious. You'll feel like your mouth and stomach aren't big enough! Although the price went up for the last two days, it was understandable given the season and crowd. After all, the location is the value. The location is super convenient, it only takes 5 minutes to get to my client's office.

well located and generally clean, except for you, but well I think it must be difficult to keep clean with the number of people. there are not enough toilets for all the people. The bathrooms are clean, well appointed and airy. The beds are clean and comfortable. Negative point: all the lockers are located in one room, there is a lot of traffic in a room and some guests allow themselves to talk loudly while others are asleep. perhaps they feel that it does not matter since it is not their room

Location is absolutely perfect. Very well connected with 4 metros stations nearby. Room is bigger than average in Tokyo. Staff was helpful. They have small kids corner so our 5 year old can play a bit while we were waiting at reception. Lots of food options nearby, it is a busy area late night but we did not hear much noise. Rooms has windows however those are facing the wall of the next building and it is kind of dark even with curtains open. We stayed there initially for 4 nights and then decided to extend for another 2 night as we liked the place.

Every time I go out, I pass by the front desk, and the staff always greets me, which I feel a little embarrassed about.
I used the hotel for business, so I can't comment on the accommodation, but the location was good, the room was spacious, and it was convenient.

This place is good and very near to the train station. The buffet is good but not so fantastic. Also same food selection for the whole stay hence a bit not so exciting but just nice to fill up the stomach.

First off, this location is a bit out of the way, if you intend to stay close to the downtown...you have to take the ”Portliner” a few stops.

No issue for me, but did not realize this when I booked.
I chose it because of the onsen / sauna, and I was very satisfied: this was the best sauna / cold tub I had in Japan (so far).

Was hotter (and colder) than anything else. The actual hot-tub was good too, but I focus on sauna ＞ cold tub cycles more than anything.

Rooms are new and look good, if not a bit small. As expected. 

Stay for a night if you are on the fence...use the onsen...have a coffee-milk afterwards. You'll feel great.

Rooftoop bar / restaurant was nice as well and very friendly staff!

The hotel's location is great, about a 10-minute walk from Susukino subway station. The front desk is on the 8th floor. There's a strange smell in the elevator and on the 8th floor near the reception, possibly because guests have to take off their shoes, which might contribute to an unpleasant odor. Every night before bed, I enjoyed a hot spring bath, which was absolutely wonderful! Thumbs up!
