Great and safe location! Close to metro stations and bus stops, making it easy to reach tourist attractions. The staff were enthusiastic, friendly, and helpful. The city view wasn’t particularly impressive — mostly rooftops and some unsightly air conditioners — but that was fine. I booked an accessible room; unless you specifically need accessibility features, I wouldn’t recommend this type of room. The door closes very slowly due to the automatic mechanism, and the bathroom felt unnecessarily large for my needs. That said, overall cleanliness and hospitality were excellent!

Located in Lower Manhattan, the building is very old, so the bathroom has a smell of sewer, and there is the sound of garbage trucks operating downstairs at night and in the morning, which affects rest! The worst thing is that the light is very dim, and the room needs to turn on the lights during the day! There is a restaurant bar on the first floor downstairs, which is very lively. There will be noise on the lower floors. Overall, it feels like a pitfall and will not stay again

We had a good experience at Gild Hall. Only stayed for one night, but it had everything we needed. Big bed, clean bathroom, okay view. The location was great for us, as we were able to walk to everywhere, and the subway was only a couple blocks away which was extra convenient as well. However, there were lines for checking in and out (only one person was working the front desk) so that was a little annoying. We also couldn't check in until 4pm (pretty late compared to other hotels), with no options of a late checkout (had to leave by noon).

Here's My partner and I absolutely loved our stay at Thompson Shanghai while celebrating our five year anniversary together. From the moment we arrived after a long flight from Australia, we felt incredibly welcomed.

The hotel kindly upgraded our room to celebrate our anniversary, included breakfast for our first morning, and surprised us with a beautiful welcome arrangement followed by a fresh fruit pastry in our room. It was such a thoughtful gesture and such a lovely way to begin our first trip to Shanghai.

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. The warm interiors, soulful jazz music throughout the spaces, peaceful river views, and luxurious, spacious rooms created such a calm atmosphere. It felt like a sanctuary away from the pace of the city.

The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in, and every member of staff was so kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble.

The breakfast buffet was delicious, with an incredible variety of both Chinese and Western options, and the coffee was excellent. We especially loved being able to enjoy authentic Chinese dishes each morning before heading out to explore.

One of our favourite parts of the stay was using the complimentary hotel bikes. We spent both days cycling around the neighbourhood, exploring the local streets and waterfront. The location couldn't have been better. It's peaceful and relaxing, yet perfectly positioned to easily ride around the area or catch a short DiDi across the river into the heart of the city.

It was the perfect introduction to Shanghai, and honestly one of the highlights of our trip.

We'll be sharing more from our travels on social media once we've put together our travel video, and Thompson Shanghai will absolutely be one of our highest recommendations.

A huge thank you to everyone who made our stay so memorable. We can't wait to return, and when we do, we'll absolutely be staying at Thompson Shanghai again.

The hotel's location and staff service were excellent. It was very convenient to get to the palace, old town, and various restaurants. There are plenty of dining options nearby, including Chinese, Japanese, Western cuisine, as well as many pubs and cafes. A department store is just a 5-minute walk away for shopping. The hotel facilities are very automated and new. However, the space layout is a bit impractical: the bathroom door blocks the toilet door from opening fully, and the wardrobe is completely open-concept with only one shelf, a single hanging rod, and two drawers. One of the drawers is mostly taken up by the safe. Long coats and dresses cannot be hung vertically. I suggest the hotel move the ironing board from the hanging area to the bathroom, as it currently takes up valuable hanging space. The bar and terrace are fantastic, with great space and location. You can enjoy beautiful Madrid sunsets and evening glow from there.
