We stayed one night in the Rose suite at the Dickleburgh Crown during a two-day house-hunting trip round Suffolk. The reviews on ********** were good and we couldn't find an airbnb with a bath at short notice (as opposed to a shower), hence the reason for our booking. We arrived at around 7pm, having been on the road for 12 hours, tired and hungry and went to the bar to announce our arrival. The bartender immediately asked us for payment, before we had even been shown our room. We said we'd like to pay for dinner at the same time and were told there was no food that Friday night (no reason given). We asked if there was somewhere else nearby and were directed to the local fish and chip shop as there was 'nowhere else in the village'. After googling and driving to an alternative pub for dinner, we returned via a petrol station to buy milk and breakfast for the morning (a kettle, instant coffee and an empty mini fridge were provided by the Crown but nothing else and no option of breakfast). On getting ready for bed, the towel rail and toilet roll holder both fell off the wall in the bathroom. The bed at least was clean and comfortable but we were kept awake by a blazing row going on in the bar next door involving lots of effing and blinding until about 11pm. Upon inspection in the morning, the beams above the bed were covered in cobwebs and the mismatched furniture looked like it had come from a junk shop. All in all, not a pleasant experience...
