My daughter and 2 dogs stopped to have lunch.. told to take a seat anywhere and they would fetch a menu.. 10 minutes and still no menu.. went to bar for water for dogs.. I got a “be 2 minutes” sat down and 10 minutes later watching people in after getting drinks.. proper peed me off.. after this we just got up to leave and I told him so and he just said “ok”.. terrible service.. then outside had been empty on arrival and we as now 3 tables full all with drinks.. won’t be coming back here again..

My wife and I are Aussies doing the Coast to Coast walk and this was one of our overnight stays. Rachael gave us a warm and inviting reception. Facilities were excellent. The room was large, well equipped with modern features. A bath was a luxury after a long days walk. Food was first rate. Would definately recommend it as a place to eat and stay... Rachael even sorted out my phone issues!

The Greyhound hotel has been one of our favourite premises for quite a while. During which time it has changed hands several times. The premises don’t really change but unfortunately the operators do!! My wife and I called in approximately three weeks ago on a Sunday evening, the premises were very quiet. It was cold outside and the previous evening, on Facebook, the hotel published a photo of a log fire with an invite to join them. So we did!! The fire was not lit and, in fact, had not been cleaned out since the previous day. The premises were cold. On our way out I mentioned to the bar man that the fire needed lighting to which he replied that “we have run out of logs but have some more on order”. I then visited the gents toilet to also find that the radiator was stone cold. There was no heating on in the bar area. As we walked to the rear car park we passed the log store which had plenty of stock and was definitely not empty!!! Saving money by operating a cold premises? No doubt!! We again visited the premises this evening 20/12/23. The bar area had no customers but the log fire was lit. Unfortunately, the smoke was not exiting by the chimney and was filling the bar area. We moved to the furthest point away from the fire, finished our drinks and left. Needless to say, I had to check the toilet radiator before leaving and, guess what, surprise, surprise, I was cold!! It would appear that Country Village Inns, the current operators do not accept that hospitality premises need to be warm and welcoming. The Greyhound hotel is definitely not that!! In addition, although we have not eaten here, our previous experience with this operator is that we believe their menu is made up of frozen produce that just needs to be re-heated and served. I think that we need to find another premises to call at!!!

We stayed in the hotel on 23rd to 25th November The bar food is ok but overpriced There is a complete lack of staff , one lady behind bar , doing check ins and serving food We stayed in a family that was filthy in the bathroom and other areas of room There was lots of cobwebs in room Dirty marks over walls The bathroom ceiling was filthy with mould and grime The shower door was falling off The drains on the shower were not clearing properly and after a couple of minutes in the shower it was in danger of overflowing The drinks tray in room cups glasses and bottle of water were filthy and not cleaned properly You could see the layers of dust on top of the lamp shade in room , the television screen was filthy and the carpet has more waves than the sea The heating was working in room on Thursday when we arrived but didn’t work rest of weekend We brought this to staff attention with other guests but nothing happened For the price we were charged for room very disappointing , appreciate its rooms above a pub but there’s no excuse for how dirty room was There doesn’t seem to be a manager to speak with only breakfast staff and evening barmaid It’s a real shame as it’s decent building but it need of some proper cleaning and tlc to bring it up to standard

Lovely staff just not enough of them! Usually 1 person checking in/bar/orders/serving drinks/food so it meant quite a long wait for everything. Very limited housekeeping with no attention to detail (we asked for more toilet roll & never did get it! Thankfully we had been to a self catering cottage befre staying here so were prepared....) Very dog friendly which is great and a very good location. A few adjus**ents and it would have been 5 stars.

A good start ~ our evening meal was great ~ compliments to the chef!Running out of black pudding 10 minutes into breakfast service ~ not so great!! Sadly, the accommodation really lets this place down, to be specific ~ the bathroom... thick black mold (almost like fungus) on tiles/grout and around the edge of the bath. Also exposed dirty pipework. Yes, this is an old building however, the standard of cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired.

A friendly Cumbrian Hotel. Food and Beer is good. Popular with locals which is always a good sign.

Only one used toilet roll in room on arrival, looked as if housekeeping had only made up the bed , room didn't look as if it ha been cleaned after last guests, no hairdryer in room, bare magnolia walls, couldn't get TV to work management were not very helpful to ty and fix problem. Very disappointed as we could have used hotel as a stopover on our journeys home from Wales.
