I would just like to point out that I don’t do revues as a rule as I suffer from dyslexia, so righting this review takes a long time, but I feel I needed to do this. Me and my wife came to cape down to celebrate our 40th anniversary on the 22nd January on arriving at your hotel we were amazed at the lovely atmosphere and elegance in this place, with the piano playing in the back ground (very nice touch) we stayed for 5 days and we feel the staff were very friendly and helpful always with a big smile and help make this hotel what it is first class. Beautiful room and such lovely views, the restraint and food were very good to, I could go on and on. We were also very touched when the manager came up to our room with a tray off chocolates and drinks to wish us a happy 40th anniversary, sorry did not get his name. We were truly impressed. we had a wonderful stay. BIG THANK YOU TO ALL!!! love Alan & Heather x

The Old Banks Hotel was our first night after landing in Cape Town. We were received extremely friendly with a big smile at the reception and that is the first thing I would like to praise: the staff. Every single staff member was very friendly and welcoming. There you immediately got into a positive mood after the long journey. Our room was large, clean and very nice. The breakfast was varied and delicious. If you want to be right in the center, this is the place to be. The location is right in the middle! Thank you very much for the great stay.

The hotel was clean and comfortable in a good location, just a short taxi ride to the waterfront. We were on the first floor (apparently fully booked so no rooms with a view available) so no view of table mountain but we could see a homeless camp on the road opposite. Cape Town is a beautiful city but there is a lot of poverty and you need to take care. The rooftop bar has incredible views and great cocktails although the food was of the ‘deep fried’ variety. Overall, it was good value for money,

I am in Cape Town for a conference and unable to stay at the hotel of my choice as they are fully booked. At the stay easy it’s been one disappointment after another since first contact. I was checked into a single room despite booking a double. The bed was so small I literally fell off with a single turn. Trust me the beds are that small. If you are over 5ft7 this is not a place for you. After putting in a complaint the next day I was moved to the double, here the sink was clogged and despite my requests was never fixed. No international Tv news channels were on offer. When prompted the reception said they would sort it out and never did. I received a similar response when I asked for a shower cap. At the Stay Easy you’ll be lucky if your call to the switch board is picked up. I never experienced that. The receptionist when we arrived was brutally honest, yes we know you booked a double but we are putting you into a single call your booking office, this happens all the time. The gym is not worth using, the pool is a pond. All true I must say. One thing one must note is that the pool and gum are not at the StayEasy but the building next door so you’ll need to leg it out of your hotel to the one next door. Finally please don’t use the vending machine I’ve lost money to it. It first work and the hotel does not have a sign to reflect that, though the door man seemed very apologetic when you don’t receive what you’ve paid for…..

I stayed for a week, this youth hostel in Cape Town is very clean. There is a separate bathroom. My roommates are very friendly and come from all over the world. The front desk clerk is very hospitable.

Room and especially the bathroom were small but adequate for a few nights. Breakfast in the attached restaurant was good with many options and an omelet station. There is a market that sets up every day in the square directly across from the hotel, however, this was not an issue. Our room did not overlook the square but overlooked rooftops. The bottom half of the window was frosted to block the rooftops. The rooftop pool and pool area is small. The location is the best reason to stay here. With your back to the market, walk down Longmarket or Shortmarket street to catch the Hop on Hop Off bus on Long street or continue to Bree Street for restaurant options including Hacienda (Mexican obviously), Burger & Lobster (limited but excellent menu and great bar). SCAM One evening, when we were heading to Bree Street, we were stopped by a gentleman with a security lanyard telling us the street ahead was closed because they were filming a movie. We could pass if we scanned a credit card into a wall mounted device. No charge but they need our names to protect the filming equipment. We declined and went up another street to the restaurant. Road not blocked, no filming equipment. We were glad we were suspicious. Amazing how you could be duped by a security lanyard.
