We had an enjoyable one week stay at this Barceló, Occidental Playa de Palma. As far as value, I actually thought they made a mistake. I paid approximately US $160 a night for a one bedroom apar**ent- including breakfast and dinner (half-board). I can’t think of any location, one block off the beach, anywhere in North America where you can get a room for $160 a night, much less including meals. The lobby is beautiful and spotless clean as is the restaurant and bar. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only exception is one balding guy that was a little over weight, who was not unkind and worked hard in either the bar or on the restaurant floor. He spoke Spanish and German and had a habit of correcting peoples Spanish, but doing so incorrectly. It was a bit annoying as my family is native Spanish speakers, and I have been speaking Spanish for over 20 years. He is not a native speaker, but always feels the need to correct grammar —-which I’m totally accepting of, unless you are wrong in your interpretation and your grammar. I don’t know what the hotel rooms look like, but the apar**ent units we were in were very nice on the outside, but very dated on the inside. I would’ve easily given a five star rating if our room was in better condition. There were lightbulbs out, crooked pictures and lights, broken cabinets , and a microwave oven that must be 25 years old. I don’t even know if anybody uses microwave ovens anymore as we haven’t had one in many years. We would definitely stay here again if we were going to be hanging on the beach, which was very beautiful. If we were going just to enjoy the city, we would stay in old town which was remarkably large, beautiful, with tons of great shopping, bars, and restaurants. Overall- great job
