SBH Crystal Beach Hotel & Suites - Adults Only

Costa Calma|0.2km from Laguna de Sotavento
We returned to this hotel following the very enjoyable experience we had last year. We requested the same room and the hotel honoured our request and we we very happy as this room is probably the best we have stayed in. It was a sea view Suite and what a view overlooking the the full length of the beautiful beach directly above the hotel swimming pool. The pool area as are all the balconies are covered with artificial grass fantastic the pool though small is more than adequate and heated and there are loads of sun beds well spaced out the whole area is very pleasant. Our room was very comfortable and was cleaned thoroughly every day. Breakfast and Dinner both buffets the food was very good ,quality and variety very good, staff very efficient, attentive and pleasant. We spent 7 nights what we were seeking was a week of total relaxation and that's exactly what we had. Now Costa Calma is a quiet area there is not a great deal to do that was fine for us. The beach is excellent. Now if we were to have any criticism of the hotel it would be in the entertainment provided. There is one bar that's fine but each night there is advertised entertainment. Our 7 nights on 3 nights we had 1 night music quiz 1 night movie quiz and 1 night bingo starting at 9 each finishing before 10. The other 4 nights did have an entertainer /entertainers but again it started at 9 and was finished at 10. The bar had a grand piano and it would have been really good if someone would have been playing some or every night while the bar was open. However this aside this Adult Only hotel is excellent and we research a lot of hotels we travel several times a year sometimes with our family. If your looking for a weeks relaxation we would certainly recommend the Crystal Beach Hotel in Costa Calma.

Firstly I did email the hotel’s head office with this feedback but have no response - I felt I should write to you directly concerning elements of our recent stay at the above hotel and before I post other online reviews to see your response. My wife and I had stayed previously at this hotel in 2018 and found there to be certain areas where we feel that standards had fallen below what should be expected. We were not happy with our first bedroom after paying for a sea view and asked to be moved, we were just told the hotel is full. After asking again the following day and persisting and showing photographs of our view to Iris we were informed that we could move to a different room the following day. One of your reception team”Walter” certainly needs training in customer service. In relation to the buffet and dining room experience. The hotel was at 100% capacity as we were frequently told but large sections of the seating area were cordoned off. We actually requested to be moved 3 times during our stay. Generally we do find it somewhat outdated that when ordering drinks in the restaurant or any bar that a handwritten ticket is produced, a copy given to me, the customer while you retain a copy which has then to be manually keyed into a till point for it to register against our room number. Surely there is a better and more efficient method in these times of internet capability, tablets and point of sale devices. It seems overly complicated in this day and age to watch restaurant staff keying in such orders. The buffet system needs to be looked at. The cooking stations are too close together, the whole buffet area is not utilised effectively in terms of space as there are areas which are not used but large queues build up at various points. This is especially worrying at the dessert area. All the desserts are situated in a long line starting at fruit and ending with ice cream. If you only want to have something from the middle of this line for example you have to join the queue at the fresh fruit counter. Guests are not happy if you just want say ice cream and we were rudely told to go back and join the long queue. Also there is a dessert cooking station in the middle and this would be better placed away from the other desserts to help ease the backlog. As I said there is plenty of unused space in the buffet area which could be used for this. The queues for the cooked fish and eggs at breakfast were unacceptable. Items were not replenished and there was a total lack of supervision in the buffet area to check on items running out. The vegetable selection was very limited and repeated most evenings. It was just too busy for us and definitely down graded since our previous visit. We did not expect to be queuing up together into the dining room and joining a mad rush at 8am to get a table in the outside terrace! The hotel is in need of repairs and renovation. You can see from the attached photographs of our balcony and bedroom furniture that if

All inclusive for seven nights was outstanding value. It's a well-run hotel with friendly and pleasant staff and good facilities. It's also in a lovely location, and the private beach and surrounding beaches are beaches where you can go out relatively far without the water becoming very deep whereas I found that the beaches further up the coast get deeper much quicker. The room was spacious, maybe a little spartan but I don't go on holidays to stay in my room so it didn't really matter and I appreciated the free Wifi and the balcony with a view of the sea. Everything is here for a great holiday, with the possibility of booking excursions, bike hire nearby, tennis and padel centre nearby, kite-surfing and wind-surfing a few kilometres away, and shops just half a kilometre away. I also had a very good massage in the hotel spa. There's a nice palm tree-lined walking and cycling paths that run for around 2.5 kilometres that are away from the hotels and road and bring you up to the top of the town - ots of people go out for a walk there in the evening. There are lots of different beaches within walking distance, including Matas, Esmaralda, Paraisa and the most spectacular one, Sotavento, which you could walk to in around 45 minutes (there is also a bicycle path there) which is quite windy and mostly for windsurfing and not really for swimmers but looks spectacular. One day I took the No 5 bus (bus stop is just 200 metres from the hotel) to the town of Morro Jable (just 2.70 euros each way) which as well as being a large town with many clothes and other shops, also has lovely beaches. There is an AllTrails hike from La Lajita (near Costa Calma) to Morre Jable also. I would definitely return, although Fuerteventura does get a steady wind which can be a little offputting at times and can make the sea a little choppy at times. Still had a great time.

We booked this as a cheap and cheerful final break of the year. We're not usually all-inclusive kind of people and tend to venture further a field longhaul. Having read some poor comments we were slightly skeptical, but we found the place fantastic for a weeks holiday, the rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. The all-inclusive options are good, unless you are a very picky 'English' only eater - breakfast and lunch options were preferred to the dinner options but still more than enough choice to make a meal. I can't comment on the alcohol situation as we are non-drinkers, but there is a variety of fizzy pop, water, fruit juice, a variety of coffee and tea options and alcohol free beer to choose from. We didn't spend much time in the resort itself as we like to explore - we hired a car and I would recommend doing so if you stay at this resort, especially if you aren't much of a walker as it's a 15/20 minute walk to the beach and resort centre. There is an onsite cat colony, a few specific cats came to our room to chill on the balcony, which we didn't mind as we are cat people. The pool area was cleaned daily and there was an ample amount of sunbeds available when required. The only negetive is the lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms - fans only. We had a fantastic time and hope to venture back someday.
