We had the superior room which was very large on the top floor with amazing view over the countryside. Nice suite to sit on and a plasma TV, with coffee making facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is optional and must be ordered by 9.00pm. Full english £9.50 and Continental £6.50

One of the best places to stay due to the 1st class location, the relaxed a**osphere the new owners have brought to the place, the top food served up by friendly helpful staff, the affordability & clean rooms with moor views front & back. Over the past decade, we've stayed here a few times, this was our first visit with new owners. Those of us that have been before can tell this is work in progress re ironing out all the previous problems left for them to deal with - the bar, lounge & dining rooms all have been freshly decorated, the decking outside, which is a lovely place to drink or eat depending on our British weather is slowly being replaced, but Rome wasn't built in a day, so take this into consideration before leaving harsh reviews! The chef, manager & helpful young man who served the lovely food to all tables both in the evening & breakfast, are all very smart & helpful. The food was 1st class - the best ribeye steak I've tasted for a long while, with a lovely creamy but tasty pepper sauce too. Our dogs were made welcome, some owners had their dogs with them in the dining room (ours are used to the words "won't be long"!). The breakfasts were filling & cooked to perfection. All in all, highly recommended - close to stunning walks, Canns Wood, Princetown, Yelverton & Tavistock - not to mention Plymouth.

Absolutely love this hotel. It's got a lovely feel to it and the staff are kind and helpful. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant. Me and my partner have stayed here twice as we love the peace and tranquility of the area and hotel. Relaxed, layed back and dependable. This hotel has a lovely feel and character, historically very interesting too. Fantastic base for exploring Dar**oor and surrounding areas. Easy quick drive to Plymouth. Fantastic :) looking forward to booking again as soon as possible! Attached pictures of our beautiful view from the balcony ✨️

Comfortable and very clean - although could do with some inside and outside refurbishment. Very welcoming and efficient staff - Sudeep (manager), Sunil (restaurant and bar), and Madan (chef). The food was excellent with a wide choice of meals. The entire team were very obliging - nothing was too much trouble. Superb location with views of Dar**oor and the distant sea.

As other reviewers have said whilst the decor may be a little dated the accommodation is well maintained and clean. The helpfulness of the staff is refreshing in this modern world. Nothing was too much bother and they were always pleasant and smiling. The food was excellent. Top value for money and would recommend.

After an absence of more than two years after the Moorland Restaurant declined badly, we returned to try the Restaurant in the hands of the new owners, as I promised after stopping in for a drink two weeks earlier. We were warmly greeted and shown to the bar by the new "Boss" and had a quiet drink and a very pleasant chat with him over the small, and very nicely varied menu. Having suffered a very poor standard of steak under the previous owners, I teased him gently about the quality of the steak now served and he immediately rose to the challenge assuring me that he would personally ensure that I was pleased. He did not disappoint as I was served an extremely high quality Sirloin Steak, cooked exactly as I had asked for and perfectly seasoned and rested. The Ladies enjoyed a Salmon Dish and a Vegetable Curry, both of which were also of a superb standard. We followed these with fabulous home made desserts, which whilst small, were exceptionally good. As we were only Dining I cannot comment on the rooms, but I would loudly and heartily urge anyone who wants a memorable meal, served in warmly friendly and pleasant environment to beat a path to the Moorland and try it for yourself. Reasonably priced and gently elegant, we shall be going back, ..... and I suggest that you do the same.

Amazing food and the service was great as well, the barman/waiter couldn’t do enough to please. Lovely rooms, although should be told that the Jacuzzi is not working before arrival, but money was taken off. Would recommend especially for the food and would stay again.

I took a group of 27 Ladies to the Moorland, for lunch, on 22nd March 2024, and we all had a delicious lunch, everything was perfect.. I would highly recommend this Hotel’s beautifully presented food, and the desserts, were out of this world.. Drinks were also very reasonably priced, which does make a change, doesn’t it!!! The view from the hotel is stunning, right across the moors, incredible it is.. Sudeep and all of his staff, were so helpful and friendly.. They made us all so welcome as soon as we came in the door, lovely friendly a**osphere in the Moorland.. Highly recommend this venue..
