This hotel is in desperate need of renovation. The foyer is spacious but gloomy, a gloom exacerbated by the dark walls and minimal lighting. The seating in the foyer is uncomfortable and the fabric on many of the settees is cracked. In the main, the reception staff were friendly and helpful. The lifts worked but were clunky and in need of replacement. Our room and its bathroom were of a good size and were clean, but they repeated the dismal decor of the foyer, and there were damp patches lingering in the shower corners. The bed was a little soft for our liking but reasonably comfortable; however, only one pillow per person was supplied and we had to request additional ones. The sliding door opening onto a decrepit balcony did not lock and a broom handle had to be put into the door guides to prevent it from being opened from the outside. Perhaps the hotel's saving grace was its restaurant, Le Velvet, which was good. My suggestion is to look for another hotel if in Papeete unless this one receives a substantial makeover.
