Dali City Hostels

A very comfortable guesthouse. The owners were very welcoming; the owner was lovely, had a story to tell, and was very talkative. The whole family was very friendly and helpful, even helping with our luggage – thank you so much!! Actually, I wasn't really into the food in Dali this time, and was a little disappointed, but the owner recommended some nearby ”non-trendy” restaurants: Blueberry Fish and Ganggang Rice Noodles. They were within walking distance, delicious, and in a great location – right next to the March Street Market, and there's also a Lotus Root Shop nearby, which is great for browsing. It's also very convenient to walk to the Old Town. And!! Peach the dog is so cute! A chubby little dog, so adorable and easy to pet. He even got up later than us this morning, haha! Hope to see him again sometime!

The owner is very kind and welcoming, and the hostel is very clean. The room also has great soundproofing! However, I'd advise female travelers to avoid room 2002. There's a long-term tenant who has a terrible temper. She slams the door violently whenever she comes and goes, and she plays poker (Dou Dizhu) at 2 AM, which is very loud. If you try to talk to her, she'll just yell profanities. If it weren't for my leg injury and the fact that other rooms didn't have lower bunks available, I really wouldn't want to share a room with her. 😓

Hygiene: Pretty good, the bedding was clean, and the bathroom was clean too. Facilities: There was a bed curtain, a small lamp, and a washing machine. There's a small balcony. One minor issue: the bathroom door closes slightly with a gap, which makes me feel a little uneasy, but otherwise it's quite good.

I have solo travelled and stayed in hostels in over 20 countries. Generally I find the hostels in China are on the messy and unclean side. In this China trip I've stayed in 5 different hostels in 5 different cities and this one is by far the tidiest and cleanest one. The staff actually pay attention to the cleanliness of the amenitie, bathroom sink, hall way, common area, tables, etc. Inside the room, it's also tidy and not full of belongings of the previous guests like the other hostels. Thank you very much to the staff team. I think it says a lot about the owner's attitude and it's clearly passed down to the staff. I want to add that they also install the little makeup mirror for each individual bed and I think it's very thoughtful and shows that they want the guests to have pleasant stay. Thank you. A comfortable stay, with helpful staff. Lots of young people who were generally friendly and helpful. I think there's a good community here. The smoke from the nightly campfire was unpleasant as our room faced the front yard. Thankfully we managed to close the windows. The hostel is set in a village just outside the old city - about 10 minutes walk, I think. Very conveniently located near the #8 bus route to the train station.

I think we got upgraded to a family room but we definitely didn't mind the extra space including a couch and table. They had a waterboiler and cups and comfortable beds with extra blankets, however the remote for the AC was missing and it got pretty chilly at night. Did not make that big of a difference anyway since the AC was located outside the bedroom. Small notice for foreign guests: It was very hard finding the place since the map didn't show the exact location and doorsigns we in chinese/ didn't match the description on trip.

What really caught my eye about this hotel was the desk; it felt so simple and understated. Since this was a spontaneous road trip, we just picked a hotel randomly, but I was pleasantly surprised! When we checked out, they even reminded us not to forget anything. Plus, during our stay, they shared some great hidden photo spots with us.

This hostel isn't far from March Street, and it's surrounded by a small forest. You can also walk to the ancient city, which is very convenient. The female and male floors are separate, with individual restrooms and showers, so you don't have to worry about sharing. There are many activities, and the price is very affordable. It's a great place for those who enjoy meeting new people.

This was my first time staying in a youth hostel, and the room was quite nice. The window offered a view of Cangshan Mountain. Both the owner and the other guests were very warm and friendly, even inviting me to join them for a BBQ and beer. However, I wouldn't recommend it for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere over a lively one.
