"Room is big & clean. Pillow not very comfortable. The shower room is small, good to have a shelf to put toilette. Staff are very friendly. They tried their best to communicate with us. Breakfast & dinner spread is very good. But almost similar range after 3 nights can be a little overwhelming. Onsen is good."

"I have been staying in very special places in Japan: beautiful locations with lots of care and details but this one is my favorite so far! Yoshi and Myong made me feel super welcomed, comfy and happy in their guesthouse. I arrived with a BIG LUGAGGE which was right away taken up by Yoshi (thank you so much!!!) and when I left he reminded me I could ask for his help if I needed (which I did). I like to ”judge” a place by the comfiness of their sofas, and Aso Base delivered superb excellency! So many cozy corners, there's not even one futon that is not hyper soft! The bathrooms have some themes on the wall, one is the cat theme, another one jellyfish and the other is lizards, so I had fun time choosing what theme I would go to. The shower capsules have shampoo conditioner and soap and then an area to dry your hair with a great view! There's details that are just piece of art! A small corner with a table, cd player and CDs that are awesome- Japanese, international and relax music and audiobooks! I've searched many of them in Spotify and will keep listening. While you are listening there are some images, like a collage, and it's so well thought. Every image has a doll representing it live action as well, like dreams coming true. The kitchen is reeeeaallly equipped, drinking water at the tap and has lots of seasonings and teapots 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 There's extra blankets and pillows and some of the pillows are animal shaped 😺🐶🐷🐑 so during my four nights there I slept in the company of Mr Snuggles, a grey cat that smiled with his eyes closed - there was pinky pig and hairy sheep too! in the female dorm every bed has a blue sky wallpaper like in Toy Story!!!! 🥹 I was a bit worried because the comments say there's lots of rules and that they are strict and don't open the door for people in the rain. But the thing is: there are some rules, because they are two people (+ another lady who helps with cleaning) taking care of a big house. It needs some organization and routines. They provide storage and the area has great options to enjoy while waiting - if necessary. Is a small town, many great restaurants around - the shop right next to the station that sells local products is a must trying repeatedly, the best onsen in the region is 3 minutes away, a Lawson across the street. I greatly enjoyed my time in Aso and everyday was glad to be going back to Aso Base. It is a place to come with a light and warm heart and soul ( they will certainly retribute), where you can have great conversations, play games or read a book, cozily nested and drinking tea while the fireplace and many lighting create a whole vibe. I've booked 4 nights and wish they were 8! Kamsahamnida and Domo Arigato, Myong and Yoshi!!!"

"The food and accommodation were amazing! They even provide yukata (a casual kimono) to wear, and the onsen (hot spring) facilities are really special. Besides the regular hot springs, they also have mud masks and a hot mist sauna! The late-night ramen was delicious too! It was a great experience, absolutely no downsides except for the price, haha! 🤭"

"A beautiful golf resort style hotel with a superb onsen. The only downside was encountering some unruly tourists brushing their teeth inside the onsen area, which was a bit off-putting. However, we still had a great time using the facilities—the free-to-rent board games and table tennis were a lot of fun! Stunning mountain view from the pavilion"

Aso Ama Guesthouse is the perfect place to unwind after a day of travel or work. At this homestay, you'll have access to a garden and tea room. This property also offers free luggage storage. A free parking lot is available at the property.

"Aso Tenshuku is the best hotel I've stayed at in Aso City. The room was really spacious and clean, with complete amenities including a TV, air conditioning, heating, and Wi-Fi. Most importantly, the bathroom was also large and very clean, with great water pressure and hot water. The owner, Mr. Lai, is a retired ********* gentleman who came to Japan to enjoy his retirement and opened this hotel. He's friendly, easygoing, and incredibly hospitable. On our first day, he warmly welcomed us and introduced us to nearby shops and attractions. We even shared drinks and chatted together. Since the hotel is very close to convenience stores and supermarkets, and local shops tend to close earlier, guests can buy ingredients at the nearby supermarket and cook at the hotel. The beef there is very affordable."

This area was formed by one of the largest calderas in the world and features fabulous sights, which range from idyllic scenes of grazing horses on the Kusasenri-ga-hama Plain to the breathtaking sight of Aso-Nakadake’s crater and its dynamic volcanic plumes.

"We had a wonderful stay at Fairfield by Marriott Kumamoto Aso. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The location is excellent, with a FamilyMart just a short walk away, making it very convenient for snacks, drinks, and daily necessities"

The Hotel Kadoman provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. Visitors to Aso will find that the Hotel Kadoman is a fantastic accommodation choice. With Uchinomaki Station just 5km away and Kumamoto Airport only 31km away, transportation is very convenient. Seeing Aso's sights from this hotel is easy with Aso Central Park, Uchinomaki Onsen and Fukunokami Daikokuten all close by. At the end of a busy day, travelers can unwind and relax in the hotel or go out and enjoy the city. Germaphobes can rest easy - the level of cleanliness is highly rated at this hotel.

"It was actually pretty good, not as bad as some of the Google Maps reviews suggest! Our triple room was huge; we could easily open three suitcases and still had a sofa area to relax. The room was clean, even the AC vents in the bathroom were dust-free. All the toiletries were provided. They have a karaoke room, a common lounge for reading, a gym, a ping-pong table, a walking track, and massage chairs. After dinner, I even went to burn off some calories by playing ping-pong. There's an onsen with a public bath and six private onsen rooms, all free and available all night without booking! The front desk staff were polite and friendly, and they communicated well in English. Even though there were three tour buses full of Thai and Korean tourists, it wasn't chaotic at all. For dinner, the all-you-can-eat crab wasn't huge, but it certainly wasn't tiny and meatless. And there was a wide selection of free alcoholic drinks, so it's probably a drinker's paradise!"

Stay at a business hotel with free-flowing hot spring for your trip to Aso

"Like the onsen in the hotel; onsen water is good and big enough for 6-7 person to use. Japanese breakfast served by staff was quite substantial and tasty. The room that we stayed is quiet and faces mountain and park. Bathroom a little small but clean. There wasn’t any wardrobe but there were hooks on the wall and hangers were provided."

Also very good breakfast with fruits choice from the region. Will definitely stay again in next visit to ASO. P.S. we missed the Mount ASO Smoke Observation Park on the first day as they stop visitor from 4pm. We went again the next day morning (JPY1000 per car driving up) and finally made it of Mount ASO."

The location is a bit out of the way. From JR Aso Station, you can take a bus and get off at Uchimaki Station (about 20 minutes) and then walk for five minutes to get there. The surrounding environment of the hotel is very quiet, surrounded by countryside, the interior decoration is exquisite, and the rooms are very comfortable. There is a small courtyard landscape in the middle, which is very suitable for sitting on a chair and dazing. There is a family hot spring available for use. The hotel's meals are mostly Kumamoto's local cuisine, which is very suitable to my taste. The service attitude is very good. There is only one Nepali guy who can speak English, but the service attitude is really warm and impressive. All in all highly recommended!

The hotel is located in the forest. There are only three single-family villas in the whole hotel. Each villa has a large courtyard and back garden. There is also a private hot spring. The environment is great, and the breakfast and dinner are also good. Friends with sufficient budget can consider it!

This inn was amazing! We even added an extra night. Our room had a view of Mount Aso, and dinner was a BBQ with Japanese side dishes. The innkeepers, a loving couple, were incredibly attentive and caring, especially considering we had a child. The four private hot springs, each with its own unique style, were fantastic. This small inn had everything you could need, with impeccable attention to detail and impeccable cleanliness. Even the slippers we wore each day were labeled with the guests' room names. Staying at the foot of Mount Aso allowed us to explore at a leisurely pace. With the extra day, we also visited Takachiho, ate Miyazaki beef, and enjoyed a great inn!

This onsen ryokan, right in the heart of Uchinomaki Onsen town, gets a perfect score from us! We encountered incredibly thoughtful staff and a warm taxi driver. Knowing we had to catch the JR train the next day, the front desk auntie went above and beyond to help us arrange a taxi, even standing outside anxiously waiting with us. Once the taxi arrived, she repeatedly urged the driver to speed up. The driver, a kind grandpa, even used a translator on the way to constantly reassure us that we would make it in time, and expressed his longing to visit China. This was truly the highlight of our trip. As for the hotel itself, it's a well-established ryokan. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, each featuring an indoor onsen with direct, free-flowing hot spring water that leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth. We loved the large, traditional Japanese-style decor. There are also two private onsen that require advance booking, as well as a large public onsen. We later discovered it was even a filming location for a racing manga! Additionally, there's an outdoor foot bath. Dining was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed Wagyu shabu-shabu, and the children's meal even included Wagyu yakiniku. Breakfast offered the famous local Mizunashi chicken dish, which completely won over my taste buds. On the first floor, there's also a preserved, old-fashioned Japanese-style reception room in the lobby, made with high-quality wood, which guests can visit.

It was very good. It was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan with tatami rooms, so I wasn't used to it at first, but I slept well and it was very quiet. The public and private onsen baths were both excellent, and the meals included with the stay were also well-arranged. Recommended!

The breakfast was delicious and substantial. The hot spring is private, but it's first-come, first-served. You have to shower outside the room, and it closes quite early. If you're going as a couple, remember you won't be able to shower after your intimate moments, so bring wet wipes for your partner.
