CHION-IN WAJUN-KAIKAN

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple Kyoto|0.56km from Kongoji
This wonderful place is nothing like the rustic version we stayed at in Yudenaka. It is more like an upscale boutiqe hotel. Only 3 floors, but very well kept. Our room was one of the largest we experienced during the 2 weeks we were in Japan. We chose to decline the meal package as we expected we would be out during the dinner time, and did not want to commit to breakfast, as my wife is a very fussy eater. A public bath for men and a bath for women is located in the basement. Exceptionally clean and properly set up in the shower area and bath area,. I chose to take advantage of the bath each evening. It is so incredibly relaxing. The bath is not heated by thermal springs but whatever they use to heat the building. The front desk staff could not be more helpful during our stay. When a snowstorm hit Kyoto, it meant the shipping company that we chose to forward our large suitcases was no longer viable since the company cancelled all trips that day. When we got up the next morning we discovered that the taxi cab companies were not answering the phones that morning(due to snow and ice). The front desk looked at my wife and I with 4 suitcases, my cane and walker and somehow just knew that we couldnt possibly get to the Kyoto station using public transit. The tall, thin gentleman behind the desk, went outside and ran at his fastest speed, 3 blocks to find a idle taxi, ran back to us, still checking out, took all of our luggage outside to the waiting taxi, assisted with the loading, ensuring that we were safely inside and on our way before he went back inside, hopefully to have a well earned cup of tea. The service is outstanding, the meal to my eyes looked incredible. The rooms have ample space for luggage, fully stocked bathrooms, Yukatas for wearing to the bath and 2 bottles of water daily. They also include a small refrigerator. If I should be so fortunate to visit Japan again in my lifetime, this will be my must stay hotel. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH CHION-IN WAJUN KAIKAN!!! EXCELLENT STAFF AND OUTSTANING SERVICE. THANK YOU SO MJCH FOR HELPING MAKE THIS DREAM VACATION SO SPECIAL!!!

It turned out to be a single-family villa. The password was sent by email to check in directly. All procedures were omitted. The facilities are complete and very good

Located in an old residential neighborhood, it is very quiet. There is a gurgling stream right outside the door, which is very beautiful. The rooms facing the stream have small balconies. The B&B is not big, a three-story building with about four or five guest rooms on each floor. To enter the guest room area, you need to open a door with a password. The introduction said that it was newly opened in 2023, and the facilities are indeed very new. There is no key card, and a real key is used. The key card is a wooden block and cannot be put into the card holder. Keep it safe when going out. Because it is not an electronic lock, the door will not lock automatically after closing. Remember to twist the anti-theft button again, otherwise you can open it by pressing the door handle from the outside. This one is a bit scary. There is no main power switch at the bedside, so be sure to turn off the lights before going to bed. And each light switch is in a different place, so you need to walk around to turn it off. The bathroom is built-in, like many other hotels. But this bathtub has no grab handles and the walls are vertical. I feel like I have to be extra careful when getting up. Washing and drying, standard weight 3kg, 500 yen.

I came with my wife to Kyoto for an over three weeks’ longstay for the fall foliage. We couldn’t have picked a better place!!! The hotel room is bright with both natural lighting and excellent indoor lighting. It is roomy, and the utmost efficient and functional in its setup in every possible way. The location is excellent, with easy access to all kinds of public transportation. It is also within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and many of our favorite temples. At the same time, the hotel is located in an area that is quiet and tranquil, not overly crowded with tourists. The staff was extremely polite and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. They helped to solve language problems for us with restaurant booking and provided useful advice on where to go for a good meal. The house cleaning was great, with great attention to detail. Overall, we are very satisfied with our stay, and would not hesitate to recommend this place to all our friends.

In my 3 wks travelling around Japan this was by far the best place I stayed at. Very friendly atmosphere and very reasonabley priced. Miwa was very welcomingand helpful on reception and Chiro the owner was a wonderful host, very chatty and generous. The breakfast is a full on buffet with traditional Japanesse or western options. They also do a very reasonabley prices evening meals with a dedicated cook. Lot's of sites and attractions within walking distance and bikes are available to rent at a cheap price which is a perfect way to see the rest of the city and beyond. 5 mins walk from the subway station in a very layed back suburb just outside the busy city centre. Friday nights are all you can eat party nights and Chiro also owns a local onsen which you can visit for free. Thank you for a great stay.

The room has a substantial size, bigger than the usual Japanese hotel, the design is great. The hotel opened in 2022 so everything is new, it has shuttle bus service to and from Kyoto Station 京都駅 every hour which came in quite handy as we spent some time shopping there. You can check the timetable on the hotel’s website. The location is a bit far from the central Kyoto area but there is a lot of enjoyable historic sites surrounding the hotel and the area is quite calm and tranquil. The view from our room looks towards the inner garden of the hotel which is quite nice. There is a mountain at the background as well to add to the natural vibe. Staffs had the usual Japanese mentality, very welcoming and pleasant. There is a subway station near the hotel, about 3-5 minutes walk, but we never got to use it as the convenience of taxi got us every time. Overall a very pleasant stay.

This is a wonderful hotel with heartfelt hospitality from arrival to departure. Both the hotel and guest rooms are furnished with elegant interiors and furnishings, allowing you to enjoy a high-quality stay. The manager and other staff members are warm and considerate, and rather than staying at a hotel, I feel a sense of security as if I had just returned to my villa. The rooms are spacious, with spacious furniture and beds, and beautiful tea utensils in the tea room. There is a mini kitchen with a sink, which is nice for rinsing teaware and glasses. All drinks in the room are free. You can look at the miniature garden while having a drink on the sofa. I also liked that there was no TV in the room. The washbasin can be used comfortably with a double sink. There was a steam iron in the closet, which was useful for removing wrinkles from the clothes I took out of my suitcase. There is an open-air bath on the upper floor, which can be rented out. The next day's check-out time is 12:00, so I was able to enjoy the open-air bath in the morning, and it felt great. Recommended for villas in Kyoto.
