Holiday Inn Chicago North - Gurnee

Gurnee|6.96km from Linden Plaza
We chose this Holiday Inn because of its convenient location to shopping and restaurants. It’s right off the freeway, and easy to access. Tried to check in late afternoon (about 2:30 pm) and when I walked in to the hotel, front desk area, there was no one around. No one at the front desk. I’ve traveled a lot, and I can honestly say I’ve never encountered an empty front desk. I waited a few minutes, thinking to myself they’re possibly on a phone call in back - but after waiting a good 10 minutes and yelling out “HELLO- HELLO” I was still standing there waiting. I walked around a bit, finally found a friendly face in the laundry area, and she helped me. Once the front desk gal came out, she gave me a snotty “can I help you?” - and I’m thinking “really? No I’m sorry to keep you waiting?” Ugh. Once she started to check me in it did go quickly and smoothly - just frustrating that she never apologized or explained why I was kept waiting. I find it rude and poor customer service. Our room was not anything special - 2 double beds and standard bathroom. The walls are really thin, and we could hear the young kids having fun running up and down the halls (doesn’t bother me) and people talking while walking by our room. Our door stated check out was 12 noon, but it was actually 11 am. We were in our room at 11:10 and got a phone call that we needed to leave. All in all - this isn’t a bad hotel. The pool is really nice (hot tub was closed due to COVID) and there is a nice restaurant that offered dinner and had a bar that served drinks. Breakfast is an extra $10. We did not get their breakfast. Gurnee is a nice area with a lot of nice restaurants- shopping Mall is also a nice plus. I would stay here again if in the area - and just hope for better check in service!!

I came on here to rave about the Gurnee location! We went a couple weeks ago and honestly have ZERO complaints! We arrived around 11 AM and although our room wasn't ready yet, we enjoyed the waterpark until it was. (Around 2:00) Our room was spotless and we had no issues with noise or anything. The waterpark was a lot smaller than the GWL in WI Dells. (The only other one we have been to.) But we actually liked the layout and it was easier to spread out but still keep an eye on all the kids. We had no issues with finding a table and chairs. We absolutely LOVED the 2 slides with the big family style rafts. They are big round rafts that can seat up to 5 people and the whole raft has a bottom. This was so awesome for our 4 year old that just made the 42 inch cutoff. The other type of rafts are really hard for her to sit in/hold onto. We ordered French fries, chicken tenders and the huge pizza box style nachos, and everything was delicious. We ate at the Barnwood restaurant one night located inside the resort. We had a table of around 15 people, and the service was phenomenal. We ordered a huge variety of things off the menu, and the portions were huge and the food was awesome. I was actually pleasantly surprised that it didn't just seem like your typical overpriced resort food. We also ordered pizza from Hungry as a Wolf and it was also delicious. Some family members did the ropes course and it was an awesome course and very reasonably priced. The dance party was a huge hit with my family, and we loved that there were 2 different time options at this location each night. It definitely seemed like there were a lot of people at the hotel and waterpark, but also didn't seem overcrowded at all. We weren't sure what to expect for a summer weekend. We had such a great time and we are already looking forward to booking another trip!
