Blackbird Inn

Our stay at the Blackbird met all expectations. A beautiful example of Arts and Crafts/Frank Lloyd Wright inspired architecture and interior design. My favorite thing was the front door! Location was very walkable to downtown, across the river to the Oxbow Market, and to the waterfront area. Breakfast and “Happy Hour” were nice but the cookies were a real treat! Lastly, the people running the inn (as well as those staying there) were so genuinely accommodating and thoughtful. We had the most contact with Emily would wax always pleasant and willing to help us whenever she could. We highly recommend the Blackbird Inn!!

The staff was friendly and helpful when it came to offering suggestions on where to visit for wine tasting and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again. The walls are a little thin but thankfully nobody was loud. It was very clean and looked like it has recently been updated. The location was Everything!!! No car needed to get anywhere. The purpose of a hotel is to give you shelter when you’re not out and about. Who goes on vacation to stays in their hotel majority of their time anyways!!! Overall was pleased and find that the hotel is very underrated for the price and location.

The room is small and crowded, barely enough for just living. The bedding and bathroom in the room are quite high-end. However, the service at the front desk was poor and not very friendly to Chinese people. When I checked in during a holiday in the United States, the waiter gave me a super bad room. The windows were full of equipment on the opposite floor, and it was impossible to open the curtains. When I asked to change rooms, the waiter's attitude was very bad.

I have stayed dozens of times at the property for work purposes. At this point they have lost the plot with room rates running from $450-1,000 a night any day and all year. The hotel is barely 3 star and simply does not deliver a guest experience to command those prices. They provide almost no service. For example after a cross country flight they did not know how to allocate me a room at check in. Really? I am a Titanium Bonvoy member and repeat guest at this hotel. They tell me to come back in a while... No offer of a drink or any recognition of my inconvenience. Some 20 minutes later I inquire again as 2 people work on my room. Finally, they find a room but no upgrade was offered though I was staying 1 week. This is in stark contrast to previous visits and the hotel is not busy at all. Pathetic! Here are some shortcomings to consider. 1. The service at breakfast is beyond slow. It is very hard to be seated. They have no urgency to seat you. Everyday you eat there the experience will be different degrees of miserable as they are short staffed and slow paced. 2. The rooms are average and dirty. Now most are suites but the furnishings are more Fairfield Inn or Embassy suites range. During my 1 week stay a paperclip and rubber band in the middle of the floor were never vacuumed up. Trash removal was ad hoc and my sheets were never changed for the whole week. Truly 1 star. 3. Some rooms are loud the windows are not soundproof. 4. The rain shower has little water pressure. 5. The curtain roads are set far off the walls letting light in. Thus, room are bright in the morning. 6. The valet service erratic so use self parking. 7. The laundry service is erratic. You don't always get your items back the same day. 8. The laundry on the second floor is often in disrepair and, as such, you cannot use it either. 9. The gym is very small. 10. The Bank bar is wildly expensive and the staff are unhappy. They make no effort to acknowledge guests once seated for a $20 cocktail or glass of wine. Having the staff acknowledge you is simply asking too much. I always had to prompt them to come to me despite the bar having 2 bartenders on no more than 3 guests most times I sat at it. This is shameful. 11. The internet is spotty and slow. This hotel does have a solid location but their shameless gouging price policy suggests they mistook themselves for the Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental which they are not. This property is a complete rip off and a very poor guest experience.

This hotel has seen better days. I have not stayed there in quite a few years and wont be back. The platinum amex concierge made the resi for us and apparently booked a basic king. No problem it was a quick stay. We were only asked upon check in if we wanted a bigger room. Didn’t realize smaller room meant trashed room looking over the back alley. I could understand if the hotel was booked since we booked last minute but no, it was a Sunday night and dead. Why they would put any guests in that room unless at 100% capacity is beyond me. All i can think is for some reason the front desk agent didn’t like us. The room not only looked over the back alley but had major water damage. The wood floors are completely destroyed. Everything was worn out and best up. The chrome was chipping off the bathroom fixtures, gross grout in the shower. The walls in the hallways were all beat up too. I could go on. Bottom line, don’t stay here until they invest some money and make sure they dont stick you in a room overlooking the back alley.
