Club Samal Resorts Development Inc

This was a day after Christmas overnight getaway for five families. We decided to take the speed boat ride to Club Samal. I would suggest that their speedboat pickup personnel would have a signboard indicating who they were going to pick up because he was just standing there while we were waiting for the ride. Had I not asked him if he was from Club Samal and would be picking us up, he would have just stood there for five minutes. I assume he was quite shy to be asking people in the pickup point since there were several groups there. The speed boat ride could get splashy especially if the waves are big. So I would suggest to wear comfortable clothes for the boat ride and get ready to get splashed. But I think it would still be better to take the boat ride than taking your vehicle and be tortured by the long cue of cars waiting to take the barge to cross to and from the island. The cue would take you about an hour or so to board and if you have kids with you the waiting time could be just too much for them to be cooped up in your vehicles. Club Samal is a plantation feel resort with a big white building. They have an olympic size four feet deep pool and a kiddie pool beside it. My seven and five year old grandkids even enjoyed the adult pool with our adult supervision because we were swimming with them. However, the beach was rocky and you need to be careful and wear aqua shoes to wade in it. I had a small foot cut because I was just wearing slippers and I was trying to protect my grand daughter from being cut by the corals. Our rooms were nice and clean, with a small verandah overlooking the pool, with toiletries, a couple of take home slippers (not the paper like complimentary slippers of some hotels), an outside laundry rack to hang your wet clothes and towels, complimentary coffee, complimentary hygiene kits of 2 face masks, alcohol and wipes and comfy beds. Sleep was pleasant because of the comfy beds and great air conditioning. I went to bed at ten pm and woke up early also. There is no WIFI in the rooms. Beside, I didn't want to disturb my sleeping companions so I have to connect at the lobby. WIFI is only available at the lobby. At 4am that could be a little bit weird. Food was okay and large enough for sharing. All in all we paid around ten thousand pesos for lunch and dinner for eight adults. You can charge it to your room and pay with a credit card when you check out. The breakfast buffet choices were quite limited. They had soup to heat your cold morning tummy but they didn't have pancakes. I don't know if they would serve it if you ask for it since I didn't ask (probably for an additional charge they would). Food service was good and prompt with staff whisking away your plates once you're done so you can hang around for some pleasant chit chat with your family or friends after your meal. But the unexpected treat came when one of the owners of Club Samal invited us and took us for a side trip (he served as

I am a hotel guy, hands down but when I found out that I could get my own room, I took a chance and went for it and I am SUPER HAPPY that I did. I normally stay at beach front resorts until a high maintenance friend suggested I give this hostel a shot. In my head, if my diva friend enjoyed this facility, then I could enjoy it too 😆. The place is NOT a beach front resort so you need to know that if you are only a beach front person. If you don’t have a car, there are “tricycles” that can you to the beach front for a super low cost. Drivers and locals are mega friendly and trustworthy. There’s a dog here named Yukie who’d even come with you if you like ❤️❤️. Anyway, the hostel is pretty rad. My room had air conditioning, a very comfortable bed and hot shower. NO television & wifi because the hostel encourages you to disconnect. If you want wifi, like me right now as I’m making this very review, you’d need to walk to the common area where you can eat your self service breakfast. They served me corn coffee which is pretty awesome. Then a continental breakfast as well. This common area has a television too so if you want to watch the news, you go right ahead. When I woke up this morning, there were many exotic birds chirping their little hearts away. So freaking cute. I checked out all the rooms so I can give my friends an accurate description. There are rooms with 4 single beds. Rooms with bunk beds with their own reading lights and 2 bathrooms in each shared rooms. The deluxe room is pretty awesome too. The art works are beautiful. Although the place advertises itself as a hostel, I am able to say that it’s a hybrid of a hotel and a hostel. I’ve seen hostels in Vancouver that made me want to barf. This hostel has gotten me SUPER IMPRESSED. Really clean. Really well maintained. Staff is awesome and initiative. I am very very impressed and I plan to bring my family and friends the next time I come back.

Davao is the best of the many Philippine islands I have been to. It is not as commercial as Boracay and Bohol, nor as boring as Iloilo. A place I like very much. But there may not be a chance to come again!

The round hut is very classy. You will see the whole Davao Gulf iff you peek by the window. The pool's cleanliness is well-maintained. Foods are cooked and presented very well, and very delicious.
