The Grand Canal of China, the world cultural heritage, was built in 486 BC in the Spring and Autumn Period. It consists of three major sections and ten sections of the Grand Canal, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Zhedong Canal. It spans 27 rivers and 58 heritage sites in 27 cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces, with a total length of 2,700 kilometers (including 1011 kilometers of heritage rivers). It is the canal with the earliest time, the largest scale, the longest route and the longest lasting time in the world. It is listed as the most influential waterway by the International Industrial Heritage Protection Committee in the International Canal Heritage List. China's Grand Canal spans more than 10 latitudes of the Earth, running through China's most prosperous North China Plain and Jiangnan Water Town, from the north to the south, reaching the Haihe River, the Yellow River, the Huaihe River, the Yangtze River and the Qiantang River. The great arteries of ancient north-south traffic represent the outstanding achievements of the water conservancy and water transport project before the industrial revolution, and have had a tremendous and far-reaching impact on China and even the history of the world. After the change of transportation to shipping in the late Qing Dynasty, the status of the Grand Canal declined. The Chinese Grand Canal and the Great Wall and Kaner Well have become three great projects in ancient China and are symbols of the great spirit of the Chinese nation.
