Kunming Stele Forest Museum - Free Attraction

Guandu Town is situated in the southeastern suburbs of Kunming and is one of the famous historical and cultural ancient towns in the Kunming area. As one of the birthplaces of Dian culture, Guandu Town has a long history and splendid ethnic and folk culture. A large number of immovable cultural relics are distributed throughout the area, and steles are an important part of them. The Kunming Stele Forest Museum was established in 2012, housing 81 steles, 83 rubbings, and three stone lions among other artistic components from the Han Dynasty to the Republic of China period, displayed in exhibition rooms and stele corridors. The museum consists of a rubbing exhibition area, a stele exhibition area, a stele rubbing experience area, a multi-functional classroom, and a service area. It integrates the display, research, and production experience of stele inscriptions and rubbings, with a more rational layout and richer exhibits. The exhibition area mainly consists of three outdoor stele corridors and three indoor exhibition halls, showcasing 113 precious rubbings including 'Stone Inscriptions from the Fourth Year of Han Yanguang', 'The Alliance Stele of the Duan Family with Thirty-Seven Tribes', 'The Mahazhi Stele', etc., and 87 stele and stone carving components. The content covers various aspects such as politics, economy, culture, ethnicity, religion, folklore, water conservancy, and transportation in the Kunming area, collectively presenting some of the essence of steles from different eras in Kunming and even the whole province.
