Yumbulagang

Yumbulagang is located on Zaxi Ciri Mountain 11 kilometers from Zedang Street, Naidong District, Shannan City, Tibet. 'Yumbu' means 'doe', named after the shape of Zaxi Ciri Mountain, and 'Lakang' means 'temple'. Yumbulagang is the first palace in the history of Tibet. According to historical records, it was built in the 2nd century BC. During the period of Songtsen Gampo, the palace was converted into a temple. When Princess Wencheng first came to Tibet, she would live here with Songtsen Gampo every summer. By the time of the 5th Dalai Lama, a four-cornered spire golden roof was built on the original watchtower-style building, and it was converted into a Gelug monastery.
