Founder of Dujiangyan---Li Bing

Li Bing (year of birth and death, birthplace unknown), also known as Lu Hai, was a famous water conservancy expert during the Warring States Period. From 256 BC to 251 BC, he was appointed by King Zhao of Qin as the governor of Shu County (now around Chengdu). During this period, Li Bing managed water and created remarkable achievements. He conscripted laborers to carry out many water conservancy projects in the Minjiang River Basin, among which the Dujiangyan water conservancy project he and his son presided over was the most famous. For thousands of years, this project has laid a solid foundation for the Chengdu Plain to become the land of abundance. In memory of Li Bing and his son, the Erwang Temple was built in Dujiangyan. Dujiangyan has also become a famous scenic spot. He is a historical figure in water management. After completing the Dujiangyan, he built water conservancy projects in Luoshui Town, Shifang, Sichuan, and later died of illness here, buried on Zhang Mountain next to Luoshui Town. He is revered as the Lord of Sichuan by later generations. The Dawang Temple and Erwang Temple were built on both sides of the entrance between Gaojing Pass and Luoshui to commemorate Li Bing and his son.
